WHOA! I didn't know a book about Stan was ever written. That's awesome. Is it available on Amazon? I'll definitely be checking that one out. May I ask the motivation for writing about Christodoulou?
Hard Luck. The book is about the career of Jerry Quarry, with some Mike Quarry stuff sprinkled in. It is no wonder both Mike and Jerry died of Dementia pugilistica. The kids were beating each others brains out since age 4. Jack Quarry, the father, was a real POS.
Yes, they’re both available on Amazon. The motivation is that Christodoulou refereed Chagaev vs Browne. The old man was in touch with Stan about his views on the fight as part of his first book. My old man’s writing style really impressed Stan and he asked the old boy to write his memoirs. It’s done quite well, particularly in South Africa, where Stan has a very decent profile.

That's a great list. As far as coffee table boxing books go, The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Boxing: Harry Mullan/Bob Mee and A Pictorial History of Boxing - Sam Andre/Nat Fleischer are excellent books. I particularly like the Sam Andre/Nat Fleischer one because it goes way back, well before Sullivan's time.
The Heavyweight Champions by John Durant was my first boxing book in 6th grade I think. It was the pictures that really got me hooked. Nice one of Clay sticking his left jab in Liston's eye, another of Patterson ko'ing Ingo. Few others I can't remember off the top of my head but they just fascinated the young me
Actually I should add I really enjoyed The Last Great Fight, about Tyson and Douglas. Has anyone read anything on both Greb and John L Sullivan? Would be interested to hear their recommendations.
I may have missed it but the Jack Hurley trilogy by @KasimirKid is freaking wonderful. All 3 books are great, the first was the best thing that I have read in years. Also, The Professional, by W.C. Heinz. A phenomenal work of fiction, but based on Jack Hurley. The History of Mexican American Boxing In Los Angeles by Gene Aguilera.
Adam Pollack’s Sullivan book. For Greb, Steve Compton and Springs Toledo wrote great books on him. Toledo’s writing is incredible.
Gene is my friend. His Mexican American Boxing in LA and Latino Boxing in Southern California are great. He’s got another one coming out later this year.
I knew that you know Gene. You and I are members in common of at least one Facebook boxing group and have several friends in common.
This: This content is protected That's the best boxing coffee table book. It's crammed with brilliant stuff and I love it. This content is protected This content is protected The picture from my avatar is actually scanned from it. It's a great book.
The Ring's Chronicle of Boxing will probably always be my favourite book as it got me into the history of the sport.
