I went with McNeely. While neither man was top level material, at least McNeely sort of had something that resembled a career even if barely
McNeely destroys that poser. Seriously. McNeely was a professional boxer - an extremely mediocre one, yes, but a professional boxer nonetheless. Gastineau was a washed up football player dabbling in boxing, several of whose fights - if not all he won - were set ups, i.e. fake.
McNeely KO 3. Gastineau couldn’t fight a lick. Good offbeat boxing book recommendation: Year of the Locust — it’s about Gastineau’s promoter, con man Rick “Elvis” Parker and his murder at the hands of Tim “Doc” Anderson. Doc beat Gastineau in a fight on the USA Network, with “Elvis” angling for a Gastineau-Foreman fight for big bucks. Doc was bribed to take a dive and did not. Anderson claimed he was poisoned in their rematch on a nothing, non-televised card in Oklahoma City. Anderson had terrible physical illness issues after that fight, lost a lot of weight, wasn’t going to be able to fight again and could barely take care of himself. Went to confront Parker to learn what he was poisoned with so he could get properly treated (doctors couldn’t figure it out) and ended up shooting him to death in a hotel room. It’s a pretty serious and accurate portrayal of boxing seedy underbelly, which was exactly where Parker was comfortable. You’ll learn a lot about Mark’s opponents, now un-legit they were and how his fraudulent career was engineered — right before our eyes on USA Network in large part.
Gastineau was afraid to get hit, watch his fight with Hightower, who was also a football player fooling around. McNeeley would stop Gastineau, maybe without even landing a punch.
McNeeley KO 1 They were trying to get Gastineau a fight with Foreman if he hit 11-0. It was probably good Anderson beat Gastineau because Gastineau would have been permanently disabled if he fought Foreman.
Well it didn’t turn out so good for Anderson (poisoned, now in prison) nor Rick “Elvis” Parker (dead) but I see your point.
Well he didn't type it was good for Anderson. He said it was good that Anderson beat Mark because if Mark did fight Foreman he would of gotten hurt.
My apologies to Alonzo Highsmith for calling him Hightower; that was the name of the chiropractor that used to realign me when I got hit too hard, fell off of something, or got hit by a car. Hence the memory issues, I guess. At any rate, here is Alonzo Highsmith trying to beat up Mark Gastineau, who is trying to keep the urine from running down his leg. This content is protected
Well I guess you can kind of ignore the murder that ultimately resulted from it and just concentrate on the fact that a pro boxer would have been knocked out.
