Yes, it’s definitely on Fightzone. It’s in Sheffield, it’s on a Friday and he was commentating on both of last weekends shows. Worryingly he was slurring all the way through both nights. Not sure what his speech was like 3 years ago but he sounded like an old fighter with 100 fights behind him.
He's not slurring his words due to his speech going... the way he speaks has been affected by the severe damage done to his tongue in the Luis Ortiz fight. Clearly some alarm bells have been rung with Dave Allen and he's as tough as they come. As Peter Fury said, you need a baseball bat to put him down, but that can also lead to his downfall. If he is going to get back in the ring and actually take training serious, then if he sticks to British level he will be OK. If he starts looking above that, then it will just lead to unnecessary damage long term. He's capable of winning a Commonwealth title and given the right fight, perhaps even a British title. But anything above that should be a no go. I'd fancy him to beat Babic.
I don't agree, that speech is not just tongue related, go back and watch his first IFL interview and then listen to him on the Boxing Social podcast. I'm am alomost certain that is brain damage.. look at the state of him after Ortiz, he admitted he couldn't get an erection for months, he was rushed to hospital after Price fight and has all sorts of medical problems. The man is a walking punchbag and Hearn looked relieved he retired. Then look at the state of him when Usyk tapped him in sparring, with headguards and big gloves... Allen himself said he was upright and actually snoring. If you think after taking the punishment he has that he sounds the way he does because he bit through his tongue, then I'm sorry you do not understand what happens to fighters who take serious punishment. There maybe was a time his chin was granite but not any more, chins go, they leave you if you abuse them and Allen abused his for years. Also with respect you are Wrong, he isn't capable of winning a commonwealth belt, just no. He is nowhere near tha level, he had a chance against one of the easiest opponents Hearn could possibly get him and he blew it. Actually let's look at the list of commonwealth Champs since 2010.. Sam Sexton, Chisora, David Price, Browne, AJ, Lenroy Thomas, Joe Joyce, Dubois and Joe Joyce again. No doubt you'll say "He beat Browne", yeah in 2019, 5 years after Browne won the commonwealth title himself and was knocked out by Whyte and looked a total state. The others he don't beat, he couldn't beat Lenroy Thomas FFS. If Babic is the level you're backing him at, then Allen isn't a commonwealth title level is he? Babic is a very small Heavyweight and has none virtually nothing of note except beat a fat out of shape Tom Little who had lost his last 4 fights by KO before Babic. I can only assume you are a Dave Allen fan or believe anything Eddie Hearn says.. "if he takes training seriously" Are you for real? We've heard that excuse after EVERY fight he has.. then he promises he will change and then puts in another crap performance and says the same again. Dave Allen should be anywhere near boxing, his heart isn't in it, his health will suffer and somebody needs to tell him the brutal truth that if he continues to fight.. he will get seriously hurt.
I agree he uses the tounge as an excuse and maybe ot doesnt help but you can hear the difference. Infact there is an interview with him and Whyte a few years ago, both sound a bit more slurry these days, Allen more so.
Yeah I agree, Whyte don't sound too clever either. Allen though, WOW, if you go back and watch his first interview with Kugan and then listen to him now.. it actually upsets me. It's not nice to see.
1. He's said himself it's his tongue has it was practically severed after the Ortiz fight. 2. Are you a doctor? 3. If so, please tell me where the brain damage you've diagnosed shows up in subsequent BBBoC's medicals and brain scans? If he's cleared to fight then he's cleared to fight. 4. Like I said, if he is choosing to fight then going forward he needs to be sensible in realising what level that should be at. Taking fights against the likes of Luis Ortiz and Tony Yoka on 1 or 2 weeks notice is sheer stupidity however from what he's been saying it 'appears' he's coming back at a certain level....... one a good few below those names mentioned. 5. Dubois will inevitably drop the Commonwealth title and other British heavyweights, the likes of both Furys, Whyte, Joyce, Chisora etc are far beyond that level so will never put themselves forward to fight for it......... that leaves you with the likes of Gorman, Wardley, Webb, Adeleye all of which I don't see as being beyond the realm of unwinnable for Dave Allen.
1) watch interviews a few months after Ortiz and then watch him now... a tongue bite don't get worse over time. 2) I'm a full time "Dr Of Love", now come here and kiss me... I'm being serious you sexy thing. 3) Are you seriously suggesting brain damaged fighters are not allowed to box? Have you seen th state of some fighters that turn up in British rings to box? Some wouldn't pass a work medical ffs. 4) Allen is done, forget any levels, when you're snoring during spars it's over. 5) Wardley caves Allens head in, so do many others in line for that commonwealth belt. Allen is and always was a "gimmick", thats all
Many boxers with ridiculously slurred speech have been cleared to box - think James Toney, and he has and has had for a long time, clear neurological degeneration (corticobasal syndrome, concomitant progressive supranuclear palsy and others - I am not a doctor, but these are common in boxers). Toney's tongue wasn't severed. Even listen to Evander Holyfield in the early 2000's compared to the early 90s. Riddick Bowe is another prime example. Allen's might be a combination of tongue and brain, but I'm siding with brain. It would be one heck of a coincidence, otherwise. I do agree with your point regarding Commonwealth title, it's not exactly a quality mix so who knows.
Get your dick out Dr Love...... I won't kiss and tell. Nah look, I completely hear what you are saying. But the facts are, he's been granted a license and is going to box. Whatever I say or you say, at the end of the day he is fighting. I personally think he can pick up a few decent wins at domestic level and given the right fight, could nick a Commonwealth title. Like I said though, if he starts looking to go above that then someone needs to have a word. If he resorts back to living on KFC and Pringles then taking fights on 2 weeks notice, then he's going to end up licking windows.
Absolutely, Toney has become a mess but he was being passed to fight by hillbilly yanks The BBBoC is much more stringent, in fact THE most stringent in terms of health in global boxing.
Waaahahahahaha I nearly spat out a mouth full of water then . Superb. Yeah I get you too, and we will see, like you say the proof will be in his performances and we will see if he trains.
