Very sad to read One of the first boxers i became familiar with due to my older sisters Boyfriend at the time being a fan He was a pretty big part in getting me hooked on boxing alongside Frank Bruno in the UK RIP Champ and roll one for me up stairs
RIP I saw a Bunce mini documentary on Kirkland years ago and it genuinely upset me, I just hope the last years of his life were better times for Kirkland. I'm sure we will see many tributes over the next week or so..... there better be.
You make it sound like a fluke and after what has happened such a notion can't continue in this thread, he was focused for this fight, boxed beautifully and fully deserved the win. This content is protected Terrible news but, sadly, I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did, I could see this coming a mile off. RIP, The Gifted One.
I wasn’t even 10 when he beat Durán but I remember the coverage it got on TV and in the papers. Always felt from the excellent Bunce documentary that an early check out was inevitable, just like @EJC83 I’m actually surprised it wasn’t sooner. RIP
Bloody hell!!! I am shocked by this sad awful news. One of my 1st boxing heroes growing up as a kid in the early 80s. We all know which fight lightened up my senses. His style was mesmerising on the eye to this then 12 year old. R.I.P. Fella.
