Pep was so ahead of his time. Such graceful movement and footwork, as if he was skating in the ring. Not only was he slick defensively but he really put together lovely combinations in his punches. A true artist in the ring and the personification of the term "sweet science".
A prodigy. I wish the footage with Jimmy McAllister was sharper because Pep seemed to fight at closer quarters in that one but still appeared very hard to touch. It would be nice to see Willie slipping shots on the inside a bit more in highlights.
I once trained a guy that had sparred with Floyd and he was pretty certain that nobody before RJJ knew how to fight. I showed him a highlight video of Pep and he watched it several times, giggling like a kid at Christmas.
