Floyd Mayweather: When Canelo fought me, he was in his prime, I was an old man. I wasn't in my prime

    Don't think so.

When he was 23 , he'd had four pro fights against no-namers.

He lost the fight because Hatton was allowed to get away with numerous fouls by referee David Parris.

If the ref had done his job, sooner or later Kostya would hav e landed on Ricky and he would have done a Judah chicken dance or taken a nap like he did in rd two of his fight with Pac.

I agree that Canelo had in the ring over the hill version of Floyd Jr.
In no case prime Floyd Jr.
Prime Floyd was when he did not had damaged hands and did not had moved up in weight classes too much, yeah.

This is a really good post imo. Generally I am within a whisker of every position you take.

I would argue that Floyd may not be greater than Pac anymore. Even by a whisker. Better fighter head to head, prime for prime? Absolutely. But in terms of career accomplishments, at this point and with Pac continuing to campaign against top opposition, I think Pac may have surpassed Floyd or if not, a legit win vs Spence (however unlikely) would have to put him over the top.

Not sure that if Floyd trained seriously, he wouldn't still beat Pac. I could actually get interested in that fight if they didn't try to ask for 100 bucks to see it on tv

It also could be argued that DLH might be a better scalp than Canelo and that Mosely should not be entirely disregarded. Agree very much that Floyd fought Canelo at the appropriate time. Not saying that Canelo that fought Floyd wasn't a baddass, just that any further down the road and the size/age advantages enjoyed by Canelo would no longer have been compensated for by Floyd's excellence and experience.

That’s how I see it. Floyd didn’t all of a sudden get brain damaged against a youtuber. He was troubled by the size, always was. Winky, Williams, margarito, etc…we’re not made for a reason. If Floyd was ever good enough to beat the best smw around, he would have at least been able to beat the best jmw at any time in his career. Did he ever do it?
the best Floyd would not beat the best canelo 1 out of 10 times….ever.

Hes not wrong. Heres an experiment, pick 2 ATG fighters in the same weight class and pretend they fight with one of them age 23 and one of them age 36. I can't think of many instances where I'd favor the older fighter.

He was still at the top of his game. Mayweather did not need to use consistent movement to be successful, he developed a stop-and-go style that didn't require him to be on his bike constantly. No one's denying that his legs weren't what they were when he was younger, but he developed other skills to compensate for that as he got older. For example, punch selection and defense improved as he got older. If he was marginally slower than he was at his peak, it was not that noticeable. The hand speed was still there, punch accuracy was very accurate.

He looked slower against Cotto and Guerrero, but when he fought Canelo he looked faster. This is because he trained harder for Canelo than he did vs Cotto, Guerrero or Maidana. Depending on how hard you train and if you focus on drills to improve your speed, it is possible for your speed to fluctuate from one fight to another. He was a better version of himself when he fought Canelo than he was in the fights preceding that or after that. He trained harder for Canelo because he knew he was fighting a better opponent and he needed to bring his A game to win and it showed in the ring. There's a reason people rate Mayweather's performance vs Canelo so highly in comparison to his performances before or after that. It's because of how hard he trained and performed against Canelo.

It depends on the fighter. There are many examples of fighters peaking at an earlier age, and there are many examples of fighters peaking at a later age.

Lets use an example that many of us are familiar with - GGG. GGG wasn't even a PRO at age 23. He debuted at 24. So would anyone argue that GGG was better at 23 as an amateur than he was at 36? Of course not, that's utterly absurd. Many claim that GGG's peak was when he fought David Lemieux. He was 33 at that point.

Lmfao what part that of pbf was 44 shot dwarfed in the ring by a CW in an exhibition against a guy who tried only to survive. In fact he caught Paul hurt him and held him up to prevent him from falling. They had an agreement, yet people like you see this as a way to promote your agenda. Yeah pbf would always have problems against a CW. Williams margo amd others weren't CW big difference there. You're really reaching here.

You're never on top of your game at 36, stop! The man was faded he was just so much better than everyone else and he proved it by schooling elite fighters even while being old.
