Nope, he doesn’t have the heart for a tough fight. All this gypsy toughness is just nonsense. He had a chance and quit when it got hard. Canelo beats him all day at any weight.
Absolutely no chance. BJS was gassing horribly when beating Eubank Jr at 160. He didn’t have the tank to see out 12 rounds against a Canelo or GGG level opponent, without being mowed down/broken down in mid to late rounds. There are IFL interviews of him admitting he didn’t stand a chance against GGG from 3 years ago. BJS knew his level and he knew he wasn’t elite.
I think Saunders at 160 "could" beat Canelo but I'd still favour Alvarez. Saunders just doesn't have the firepower imho.
Funny how the “Lemieux version” looks good when fighting Lemieux. Surely BJS would bring the “Lemieux version” of himself to the biggest fight of his life and in his prime. Or maybe the “Lemieux Version” just looked good because of the opponent.
The Lemieux version was 4 yrs ago, Saunders just isn’t as good as he was back then, he was much quicker on his feet.
If that's the case, OP, then Saunders is a fool for messing about, not taking opportunities when they arose, and being the fighter (with the legacy) you claim he is. I'm not a Canelo fanboy, but I'll give him one thing - he has committed his life to boxing and is hungry. Despite the money, the hot young wife, the applause, the fans, the belts...blah blah blah...he still trains as hard as anyone, takes it very seriously, and comes to fight. If Saunders had shown the same level of desire and had aspired to more than a fat bank balance, he might have fulfilled that potential and have beaten Canelo (either when they both campaigned at 160 or more recently). As it is, he will be remembered as being a very solid world level fighter who could have been elite, but in the end wasted his potential.
The fight goes the same way at 160. Disclaimer: I had Billy Joe ahead on points but the fight went how it did. There's not much difference this fight being made at MW would've changed.
