Ali was a showboating King, especially in his prime in the mid 1960s. The Ali Shuffle is the probably most well known showboating move of all time, and the most repeated showboating move used by other boxers. But of course the Prince and Roy Jones took showboating to a whole nother level. Of course Ray Leonard's use of the bolo punch and his showboating in the Duran rematch is probably considered the most effective use of showboating in history in humiliating an opponent, in this case forcing the opponent to be so fed up with the opponent showboating he literally quit in the middle of a round and walked out the ring.
Still RJJ did a lot of showboating vs Calzaghe, even in a losing effort. It was really a showboating duel. Joe was mostly reacting to Roy's showboating trying to counter-showboat Roy.
RJJ had a pretty tight guard, though. RJJ was mostly covering up along the ropes and picking off Joe's shots. He was losing rounds simply because he was getting out volumed and outworked, not from an efficiency standpoint. According to Compubox, RJJ landed his power punches at a much higher %. RJJ landed 45% of his power punches on Joe, Joe only landed 36% of his power punches on Roy. Overall RJJ's showboating was better and more entertaining. Joe's counter-showboating was very little-brother esque. RJJ was playing to the crowd while nullifying Joe's inside work in the clinch in round 2 which was hilarious.
Calzaghe threw a ton more punches than Jones, though. He straight up embarrassed RJJ. If the fight had gone 15 we would have seen a KO.
Check out those compubox #s lmao. Calzaghe threw more than twice as many punches as Roy. Calzaghe threw 985 punches, RJJ only 475. Roy's power punch # were impressive though, 147/326 45%. 45% power punches on Joe with that many landed is insane. Hopkins only landed 116 power punches on Calzaghe, at only 31%. RJJ jab #s though 12/149 8% lol. Though according to Compubox, Hopkins wasn't much better with the jab vs Calzaghe, only 11/93 11%. Kind of amazing that Compubox had RJJ landing that many more punches on Joe than Hopkins did. Total punch % : Calzaghe 35%, RJJ 33%. Pretty darn even % overall, but landed punches Joe more than twice the amount, Joe 344 landed, RJJ only 159. Though man that means Joe missed 641 punches lol. Most of those were blocked. Has anyone ever missed that many pynches in a fight according to compubox lol.

Well, according to Compubox, Joe's % landed was very similar vs Hopkins and Roy. 35% vs RJJ, 33% vs Hopkins despite throwing 278 more punches vs RJJ. And we know how close Joe vs Hopkins was. According to Compubox, RJJ landed 32 more punches on Calzaghe than Hopkins did. At the same time, Calzaghe's % landed vs Roy and Hopkins were about the same. It's just interesting data to look at. Also RJJ landed at a much higher % on Joe than Hopkins did, 45% to 31% power punches, and 33% to 27% overall. Joe out %'d Hopkins in terms of landed punches at a much higher % than he did Roy. This data indicates that Roy's strategy vs Joe was far more effective than most people give him credit for. RJJ's blocking and tight guard was underrated. I know he suffered a bad cut vs Joe, but he was never seriously hurt by Joe, and people considered RJJ very chinny post Tarver.
Broooo Roy was still showboating at like 50 year's old. He was completely SHOT against the major ducker Calzaghe, who only took the fight once Roy Jones Jr. resembled a Grampa in everyway. I would feel more proud if I viciously KO'd my own grandmother rather than fight Jones Jr. at that stage of his career.
He still landed 32 more punches on Joe than Hopkins did, according to Compubox. And Roy landed at a much higher % on Joe than Hopkins did. And Joe only landed at a slightly higher % on RJJ than he did on Hopkins despite throwing a ton more punches vs Roy.
