Well it is unlikely, but you never know. IMO, he would have a case for a Top 10 pd for pd or at the very least Top 15. He would surpass Floyd for sure in my book. Any views on this one?
Depends what else Spence goes on to do. The win could age horribly if Spence goes on to lose to Crawford or worse yet Thurman f.e.
That would be a tall order, but if he does happen to defeat Errol Spence, he would rank as one of the best pound for pound fighters. If Pac should be victorious, I would like to see him against Bud Crawford.
It all depends on how well Spence does after the fight. A good win no doubt but it could be a great one.
I had him an underdog against Thurman and he proved me wrong. Should he upset Spence at his advanced age and after so much time off it would likely boost him into the top five but NOT the GOAT. I don’t think any modern day fighter will ever accumulate enough fights to crack that barrier
I rate Spence highly enough that no matter what he does afterward, I'd still consider it a truly great win that could only appreciate with age. I am actually surprised it's even meant to happen now. I thought Spence or Crawford were so perfectly the fights that *should* happen if Pac wanted to continue as a champion should, yet so understandably the kind of fights that *wouldn't* happen, the way our awful sport is regulated, that I can barely accept that it's just around the corner now. Genuinely, I am seriously impressed that Pacquiao is doing this. I mean, think back to a time when Pac was already a great fighter and it still made sense that he was carefully snagging a lightweight title against DAVID Diaz and that it was still a solid win at that age and weight. If you introduced the idea of someone like Spence at that time and said what if Pac fought a guy like that in his forties? It's the kind of silly thing you'd come up with while being discerning about his place in history. "Oh, I'd have to keep him out of this club of guys unless he did something really crazy like fighting a guy like this at welterweight and doing a Foreman/Moorer kind of thing all the way into the year 20-20-something." This is a guy who was holding a real world title in the nineties. This is as out-on-your-shield a territory as you are likely to ever get as a career move, on paper, and if he wins...I already have him in the top twenty somewhere as it stands. I would have to scratch my head over this. I'm not sure what I would do. There are guys that I've got over him that are over him largely because I consider their peak abilities so impressive that it outweighs their paper accomplishments against Pacquiao's and I think I would have to accept that it would finally undo that thinking and put him more near the top ten. It'd just be too ridiculous. I've been waiting on Pacquiao to get leveled and finally decide there's no more reason to try and fight at the top for half a decade now. He's actually got someone with heavy enough hands and keen enough skills that makes that overwhelmingly likely. I already had to consider that Thurman/Pac was tantamount to Foreman/Moorer, as an accomplishment, to top off all the great names and weight jumping. So, this? It'd be closer to if Foreman had to fight a Foremanesque Moore to get his accomplishment. That's how unlikely this should be, even if Pac won by close enough controversial decision. I know there's a left-hand dominant issue that gives Pac plenty to work with, but I think he just simply should not be able to survive this and that a win should shake the halls.
