Wouldn't McCall be completely washed up by the time they would have their 3rd fight ?!

    I agree.

He just did the minimum to make the TKO mathematically certain.

One thing Is certain: Lewis is merciless when it comes to rematches. The same he'd be in an eventual fight three with McCall imo.

    Oliver McCall isn't fighting anybody.
He turned down 500k to fight Shannon Briggs. He turned down Holyfield.

The Emanuel Steward version over McCall every day of the week and thrice on Sundays.

McCall looked like McCall for some rounds. He was trying like crazy to set up that right hand ambush but Lewis was a different fighter at this point and was effectively cautious boxing behind the left hand including hooks. He became confident without any sloppiness and really came on, might have been the third round. Man he hit McCall with some hard shots but there was still no openings for Oliver. The more forlorn things looked for McCall the worse he got as reality set in. He was never going to catch Lewis lunging in off balance with a punch he never saw again once Steward shored him up. McCall was carrying on similar against Holmes as well and if Holmes was a bit younger we may have seen a similar breakdown. McCall could often get discouraged easy.

Steward trained McCall against that version of Lewis always has a chance of landing that punch. He was looking for it from the first bell and committed to sticking with it which deserved credit. As it was i would have let Lewis continue. He was a bit wobbly but so where 45 673 other fighters who fought on. He was Heavyweight champ and up on his feet at 6. As the commentators said he deserved the chance to be knocked out.

Lewis gets a big decision win over him. The fight consists of Lennox pawing away with his jab and tying Oliver up if he looms too threatening. Lennox s big rights bounce off the Bull s head.

Mcall really didnt have the skill set to beat Lennox Lewis in his prime. He caught Lewis at the perfect time in the first fight cocky sloppy and poorly trained. Emanuel Steward basically trained Mcall to throw one punch at Lewis, the counter right hand because Lewis telegraphed his so badly and left himself wide open. If you watch the first fight Mcall had his eyes closed when he landed that shot.
