Fitzsimmons looked awful on film, at best like a bad amateur. I remember I saw a round of his fight with Corbett, he threw just 1 punch the entire round, and he even missed that one. Corbett threw none

Just look at how you recently claimed that (though highly unlikely), a poster had never seen footage of Gans - simply because his opinion differed from yours. But completely unlike Ali, Floyd avoided tons of the best & top ranked contenders for many years.
Do you debate anything at all that Stitches Yarn said in a post shortly before yours giving the timeline of ducking worthy contenders & taking easy marks instead?

A phenomenal fighter below 147, sure. The most skilled boxer in history? Not even close. Nobody thought he was the best between '96-'03 ffs, let alone all time.

 

So if someone thinks Fitzsimmons is better than Mayweather P4P you think they have an anti-Mayweather agenda, but in the opposite case it's ridiculous to suggest any dislike due to a difference of opinion?

As for how someone could rate Fitzsimmons higher, it's simple, because what he achieved was ridiculous. He utterly dominated Jack Dempsey at 154Ibs. He weighed in at 164Ibs fully dressed around the time he was blasting out Tom Sharkey and Gus Ruhlin. He gave up about 40 or 50Ibs to Jeffries and gave him all he could handle, combining his well known power, with slipping punches. He outboxedthe very capable George Gardner over 20 rounds as 40 year old ill and injured fighter. For years after to compare other fighters of his weight to him was seen as basically unfair because he was so exceptional.

 

Yeah, it might have been me who brought up Fitz first, and that was because of his ridoncolous achievements.
