I like Joyce but this is a typical fight these days in the division. Takam is a journeyman level fighter who has lost to every good fighter he's fought. Chisora, Joshua, Povetkin by KO and a UD loss to Parker .I mean what are his best wins? A 43 year old Frans Botha? or beating a 40 year old Michael Grant. Now Carlos is 41 so all Joyce can really accomplish is getting rid of an old Takam in quicker fashion than Joshua or Chisora did or look weaker in comparison.
Joe should win rather easily. I've never understood the hype Carlos Takam has received on this board. He has lost every time he stepped up. His biggest wins came against Michael Grant and Frans Botha. He's just a gatekeeper. Too bad Joe didn't get the Usyk fight. He's been moved along at a really good pace. They shouldn't slow down now. A fight with Joseph Parker would be good this year. Or an Andy Ruiz.
Joe Joyce is currently rated #5 in the WBC ratings. I could see him fighting Whyte or the Fury-Wilder III winner sooner rather than later. Any of those would would be a lot of fun regardless of who the defending champ is.
He drew with a then undefeated Mike Perez, beat 42 year old but still serviceable Tony Thompson, perhaps Jerry Forrest is actually his best win of a prime opponent. He has a thin résumé for sure, just lacks a marquee name.
Takam was beating Chisora well prior to getting clipped Gave AJ a tough fight and the ref dived in and wave it off prematurely just as it looked like AJ was beginning to gas Lost a very close decision to Parker Was holding his own against Povektin up until the KO In short he's been very competitive in almost all of his losses and he fought AJ and Chisora in the UK, Povetkin in Russia and Parker in NZ
Okay that's it. Joyce is a good fighter but he's starting to get overhyped. I wont be suprised if Joyce steamrolls him but i actually expect this to go the distance and i excpect Takam to win at least 3 rounds. This fight will show how good Joyce truly is because it wasn't that long ago that he was neck and neck with Byrant Jennings
Takam is definitely a good test for Joyce. In his prime, he was in or around the top 10 HWs in the world. Gave a good performance against Chisora, AJ & Parker. Will be interesting. Definitely don't see him getting knocked out by Joyce.
Yes neck and neck the fight was close and competitive. Joyce won of course but Ortiz did a lot better against a younger Jennings. It's the truth my guy. Takam isn't even top 15 but note he was beating Chisora easily until the brutal KO. Dont be suprised if Takam gives him issues.
A lot of you guys are underrating Takam. I don't expect him to win, but he should pose problems to Joyce and if Joyce doesn't employ the same strategy like he had against Dubois - box early, frustrate him and take him out late. Then Takam could catch Joyce with something.
Joyce is not stupid enough to get himself into a situation to be caught with anything subsequently damaging. Joyce is a smart guy and many simpletons think he is thick because he sounds the way he does. These are the same type of simpletons that think salesmen are smart and consequently let them pull their pants down when they go to buy a car or property. Joyce is no diddy. There's not a single thing Takam does better than Joyce, and he's 40 years old. The size difference will make a difference because Takam is not the sort of boxer to take any advantages from being the considerably smaller man. I've seen some sites listing him at 189cm (6'2.5") which is a good joke, as he is not over 180cm (5'11''). He's going to look old, cumbersome and tiny next to Joyce, who has a fantastic engine. Joyce is going to toy with Takam and enjoy it. Takam has not beaten anybody decent in his 16 year career. He's certainly not beating anybody decent now, and Joyce is much more than decent.
