Ii you talk about not boxing like till some 80 ies, difference cos gloves matters damn a lot.
In 50 ies in some not rich area you might had to compete with opponent who does use old horsehair padded gloves.
Not about cheating, just imagine: modern AIBA certified gloves with their fist closing option vs almost like modern pro, just a bit larger and with horse hair padding unmodified gloves used 1 month on daily basis?
    Imagine difference?
Yeah, no manipulations here, just old gloves with horsehair padding.

And more polished, if they have more money, they might afford better level sparring partners and a lot of things.
Yeah, and there injuries too does have impact. Both, mentally and physically.
I might not go till notable names, just one example: guy had high stoppage wins percentage vs in shape and good for him opponents in ams, lol, with these am gloves.
He had f ****** up hand and after this.
Long lasting effect: he is able to finish only absolute walking boxing bags in pros.
Not able to finish for sure some from his former opponents he had in ams.
Answer is simple: he does not throws with this hand more than maybe 80%, this is what this is.

In amateurs looks that best road to score is long range work, especially long jabs.
KDs does matters and refs in am boxing, KB are more concerned about ighters safety than in pros.
This is also cos these ams are really different: from some maybe even working student till someone who is 100% fulltime am.
There is reason why some posters in internet post " amateurs " no amateurs to point this. Some % from these are pros in competing under am rules and mature adults. They also are more willing to win than casual journeyman because their support and premium depends from place they had get in high level tournaments.
It is not like boxer gets purse in pocket even if he will step in the ring and only for this.
While some countries are paying not bad premiums for medals.

A lot of guys competing under am rules are not warranted to get anything even if they will get Olympic Gold medal.
Some are with flats& expensive cars after they get any medal here, not alone Gold.

Am game too does have ways how to win with hard beating. It is more difficult cos shorter fights and these gloves, then ofc if headgear.
    Rules are different of course.
    Scoring too.

If opponent for example can't continue to box in next round, you might get win cos this in ams.
If ref will stop this etc and etc.

    Ams aren't just point scoring.
While I agree that if compare with am Olympic boxing, am kickboxing is far more brutal game. Especially if you are competing at high level and no one supports you. Imagine for free vs Povetkin etc like specimens under KB rules?

Well you usually have it or you don't.

Tommy Hearns was taught to use his leverage to become a puncher but he already was born with it- he had to just be shown how to use it.
So boxers when they turn pro do not punch hard but latter become punchers- because as their bodies mature say from a 20 year old to a 24 year old they gain strength.
Some boxers improve their technique and it HELPS with them hitting harder.
But the Danny Lopezs,Thomas Learns etc they are just born with it.
Same as those fast fighters Meldrick Taylor/Camacho they were just gifted with tremendous speed.

This. Tommy Hearns is a perfect example if there ever was one. Not a hint of devastating power in the amateurs, turned pro and the mechanics your on about kicked in

Usually all they are improving and are able to improve at least until they are over the hill.
This depends, like in amateurs too, are you full time, par time, 1/3 time or 1/4 time boxer and ofc natural gits matters a lot.
Still even Tyson and bunches with these had been very hardworking and diligent, this only looks like he wasn't, he was also very patient until 1988 th etc

Matchmaking, opponents does matters here damn a lot + of course boxer might improve very seriously and if you add here proper matchmaking, then.
Training, sparring quality, things what opponents are doing.
It all depends, properly polished and enough fast boxer might drop lad on counter even if he had been considered as with " light hands ".

Weight classes, some are trimming down, some are getting up cos weight cut and maintaining impacts them.
    People are different.

Hell I taught myself to punch with proper form and the power increase was ridiculous. I had already hit decently for my size as it is but now I can really punch way above my weight which is very low. I'm a flyweight and I've had middleweight to light heavyweight sized guys saying I have very good pop for my size. It's really worth learning to turn your ankles, hips and to lock your shoulder properly on a punch, it's noticeable how much more weight and speed you can get in the punch.

No, all roids do is improve your recovery in between reps soyou can lift more weight in a shorter space of time to put muscle on quicker in a short training camp, boxers take roids so they can put on muscle quick if they have have fight at a higher weight, you need speed and body mechanics to punch hard, a body builder cannot punch like Julian Jackson.

You have just reminded me when we had a good laugh at a gym we used to use in Bristol UK. Few of us would meet up & train, rundown scout hut but reasonably kitted out etc. This particular evening the Gym owner was all excited as one of his golden boys was up to sighn with Ex World Middleweight champ Chris Sanigar of Sanigar Events. The gym owner asked our mate Mike " Big mike" to step in wit de gowlden boi ha ha , You see Mike is a very ,very laid back white boy, think of a farmers son type solid thick set 18stoner @ 6' 2" , colly flowere eared rugby prop , pretty unstoppable & just trains to keep trim. Now Mike had become ( If I remember rightly) Souther Area Super heayweight regional champion, I asked Mike how he managed that ? His reply was classic Mike , he said " Well 1st of all there is only 3 or 4 of us in the division & when I found out the Champion was a Copper I had always wanted to chin a copper so i went in for it " ha ha Mike all over. So back to the point , Mike stepped in with this guy who TBF was a Cruiserweight , but if he made an impression Sangar would sign him , now Mike is as slow as molasses , so it goes off & we could tell the Golden one was really going for it & Mike did look a bit annoyed . He said " ere this ****er is trying to really hurt me so Ginger said " Well ****ing hurt him then" Pow this **** was like a piece of jelly on the floor not a movement just his chest going up & down & dribbling like a dog lol Chris sanigar came up to Mike & asked mike to sign with him mike replied , nah thanks mate I only come here to keep trim for Rugby & have a laugh with me mates " lol Sanigar was really puzzled ... Mike aint no nasty piece of work but he flattened the wannabe..
