Louis was fairly dominated by Schmeling and absolutely crushed him in the rematch. So a come from behind KO from Wilder won't match that, he needs to dominate from start to finish as Louis did Schmeling.

And why shouldn't we look at the Louis-Schmeling rematch from a political/psychological perspective? Louis was put forward as the defender of the free world against the man who had bested him. Wilder just has his own reputation to defend, not that of democracy as well.

What Louis did probably cannot be equalled or let alone bested due to what was at stake at a personal level as well a global one. If he lost, he wouldn't just have let himself down but also his nation and everyone who opposed the Nazis. He had all this on his shoulders and just levelled Max. Astonishing when you think about it.

and it is a big if Wilder were to beat Fury, then Wilder in my opinion would have retired the former lineal champ, as I cannot see Fury having the motivation or psychological coping skills to re-enter a pro boxing ring again if he lost.

Wilder gotta beat Fury first before we can consider things like it being greatest HW redemption of all times.

Um...I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt and say that was a typo on your part. But due to likes you are receiving this still needs to be pointed out. And to be fair there does seems to be a common misunderstanding that Wilder just needed to find 2 more rounds...It's almost Urban Legend at this point.

If Wilder were to come out and outbox Fury and make him look silly, then yes that would be something great.

If Wilder were to be completely clowned by Fury, made to look like a B-grade fighter (again) and then land a lucky hail mary punch and knock him out then that would be a fluke, which is not really all that great.

It's difficult in a way because almost by definition Wilder cannot be great when viewed this way - "evade and endure, then land big right" is the absolute depth of Wilders tactical abilities, it's just the way he fights...
And it's been effective for two reasons up to this point - firstly because that bomb is a damn hard punch and secondly because Wilder has a long history of cherrypicking poor quality opponents.

Sorry, if Wilder wins it won't be entirely on the merits, which makes it hard to call it a redemption.


Wilders entire career to date is what requires redemption, not this trilogy on its own...
Wilder would be redeemed in the eyes of many fans if he were to just man up and fight serious threats - stop ducking Joshua, stop ducking Whyte and then go through other top ten opponents as well, and actually beat some of them (it doesn't have to be all, but being willing to fight them and showing that he belongs at that level would be significant).
Deep down, we all know that's never going to happen, though, don't we?

 

I hope this time Fury wins by a monstrous self uppercut of Wilder or also by disqualification of Wilder like Golota with Bowe. The audience would go bananas.

 

You've got to be pretty shortsighted to think that if Wilder wins this third fight, there'd be no forth.

 

I don't know about the best in history, but it would sure create a much needed boost in boxing interest and in the heavyweight division. It would create alot of excitement. Imagine another Wilder highlight reel KO on the nightly news. Instant Heavyweight excitement. People would be talking.

 

It's a bit hard to see how he would beat Fury if Fury doesn't have a melt down again and comes in totally out of shape. He landed his best on a still recovering Fury in the first fight and still didn't come close to finishing him and he's not outboxing him.

 

I don't understand those who say that Wilder should come in lighter. How would less weight have helped his performance last time? He got outmuscled, so why would a smaller frame help him? No one is expecting him to stick and move to a decision surely? He have to stand up to a Fury that will try to bulldoze him, so can't see how less muscle would be of any help.
