Yes he was a huge Liston fan and put forward a very nice piece.

Personally i can't see peak Liston beating the Ali of 3 years after their first fight just prior to exile. That Ali was as closer to unbeatable than any heavyweight ever. The styles mesh strongly favored The Greatest.

Many people don't comment on it, but I love the prefight staredown. Liston was known to frighten opponents, but Ali's stare back at Liston, seemed to say " I got you where I want you you big ugly *******!"

Strangely, Though he thought Liston was the #1 H2H fighter, he only very narrowly favored Liston over Dempsey.

Remember it's all just opinion. We all have differing opinions of different fighters and in some cases you can even get two excellent posters/experts with vastly different takes on one match or fighter tho it's certainly not the norm. Personally i think Liston would roll him comfortably. am i doing Jack a disservice? Maybe, maybe not.

Liston did not take Ali seriously at all.
He barely trained. He was too busy drinking and partying.
He was also older than stated.

Having said that, I reckon a properly prepared Liston has a chance to beat this young green version of Ali, but not the 67 one. Ali just had too much speed.

I like the AI colour and all, but is their a HQ version of this bout floating around? I just find it hard to believe that there are HQ full bouts of guys like Fighting Harada but none of the lineal Heavyweight championship of the world, with two polarising, highly showcased figures.

This is the highest quality I could see on YouTube, but I'm pretty sure a better one exists. These highlights below the full fight seem to be ripped from a better source.

Reminds me of that quote from Max Payne:

'I don’t know about angels, but it’s fear that gives men wings.'

If Ali had no fear, or was overconfident, he could've never performed this well. An incredible, razor sharp performance.

Difference is guys like Stonehands can thoroughly explain their opinion and make you think about the scenario in a way you didn't cover. Even if you don't agree, it makes you evaluate your own opinion more thoroughly. Pretty different to one liners like 'he schools him bro lol'.

Sometimes all that's necessary is confidence. Not the fake or bully type.
Just knowing in your heart you've put in the hard work to be successful
in any endeavor be it the boardroom or boxing ring. Ali's confidence
may have been his greatest attribute, also his biggest problem at the
end not knowing when to say it's over.

Ali beat him first time and next year KO'ed him in one round. I think the case is closed.

Ali couldn't have picked a better champ to face than Liston. I've alway thought that.
Course, Sonny had that big, scary aura about him, all the better for a young Ali to pop holes in it.
That version of Liston never beats Ali, even if he gets something in his eyes every round...
