I can’t even comprehend what type of mental midget you’d have to be to resurrect an old thread because you’re still struggling to accept that a fight 18 years ago didn’t go the way you wanted it to!

He lost, he looked like a Tom Savini creation at the end of it, and for ones mental health it is a very important step to accept this.

He wasn’t “way past it” at all.

After Tyson he was like “a fine wine”, in his peak according to Ian Darke, Glen McCrory etc.

All he did was face his toughest opponent since Holyfield, won and then refused to go to that dark place again, hence holding the title to ransom for 12 months then retiring.

Still very muscular and Klits, Pov haters always attempt to insist that these all should had been in prime even when they were 38, 39 y.o etc.
Interesting thing that this fight vs Lewis get for Vitali more benefits for further career, he get larger fanbase and no one from his fans had been worried about this lost fight vs Lewis.
He wasn't boring and sorry, obsession with 0 in fight record was not comfortable also for Lewis fans, Lewis did not had 0 in his fight record.
Fact that Lewis did not had gave him rematch and is considered by western fans as better boxer than Vitali too looks that did not had impacted Vitali career negatively.

If something had impacted his career this was his shoulder problems ( he had very serious problems even when he did had famous 0 in pro record ) and stuff that he despite he initially was ranked by WBO and WBC, later he was ranked by WBC while his brother by other boxing orgs.
Due to this Wlad had more belts in his resume, more title fighs with multple belts on line etc.
Lewis fight actually looks that was thing that had boosted his further career not had any negative effect on his future.
While his brother with bunches with belts while he was with WBC belt only looks that had impact.
Another thing: his shoulder and back problems.

If anyone deserved to retire on his own terms it was a 37 year old Lennox Lewis. The idea that a 37 year old was somehow wrong in not fighting again is nonsense.

If Lewis fought someone else then yeah one could argue he ducked a rematch but he didn't. He decided to retire and that shouldn't be a shock as he was 37 with multi millions in the bank and had achieved everything he set out to do in the sport.

The fact that so many Vitali fans still cling onto a 37 year old veteran not fighting him a second time is desperate.

    What’s desperate about it?

Heavyweights as a rule age much better than other weights bar heavyweight fighters below 6ft who are generally at elite level like shooting stars.

I would bet my whole life’s savings on Lewis not retiring if he had faced Johnson and won.

Lewis wasn’t old, wasn’t fat, he just faced his toughest fight since Holyfield 2 (a fight some people had him losing) and didn’t want to face him again.

Lewis didn't need to face him again, maybe he felt that that fight was all he had left at that level, why tarnish a legacy by fighting on past your prime?

Vitali had his chance and wasn’t good enough to take it.

Average Vitali fan does have other boxers to follow today, Vitali is retired long years ago and sadly looks that western forums posters are more living in the past.
For example they bring up this Lewis vs Vitali fight and love to insist how older era was better thing etc alike.
Average Vitali fan not likely cared about Lewis existence after he had retired. Today they does have bunch with boxers to follow and not likely are talking about Lewis and also about Vitaly.

If you are interested about age and boxers: 40 years old Vitaly with shoulder and back problems, being almost 1 handed beated Chisora 12 rounds, after this fight Haye get the same Chisora in the ring. Haye was not 40 y.o and did not had shoulder and back problems then, he finished Chisora in 5 rounds.
While, vuala, 2 from last top 10 boxers Chisora had in the ring were not able to finish Chisora in distance, despite they were younger than 35.
Vitali was good boxer:nonono, his haters can't accept this.

Klits era was good era, they were good boxers.
Of course age too had impact on them.
Modern boxers fight with Klits era boxers.
    38 y.o Wlad vs 33 y.o Undefeated version of Pulev. Now: A.J vs 39 y.o Pulev.

The "state of his face" argument is not one I find convincing, because a bout is not determined by the appearance of a boxer's face at the end of a bout. Many boxers have won clear cut decisions with car crash faces, much worse than their opponent.

The cut that stopped the bout was caused by a grazing blow, and furthermore, nobody knows how that effected Vitali Klitschko's subsequent tactical decisions in the ring, and it no doubt would have buoyed Lewis. Regardless of opinions, that is a considerable slice of luck. Without that particular cut, the bout would have gone on.

Lewis' post-fight interview and retirement said it all.

Both Lewis and Vitali would absolutely pummel the current crop.

    What kind of chance?
If you mean Lewis fight and your own personal opinions about Vitali, looks that in reality your opinions are nothing for his career and Lewis fight did not had impacted his career badly at all.
Live with this, hate Vitali and post your dreams if you can't live without hate.

You have accused me of being biased in favour of Western boxers and against Eastern European boxers while my favourite boxers are Vitali Klitschko, Sergey Kovalev and Oleksandr Usyk.

I don't think that there is a "Western" bias, or anything like that. There is certainly a nationalistic bias that can often be observed throughout the forum, but I don't accept that it's a Western vs Eastern thing like you have concluded.

    Are you an Eastern European?

But the point remains. A 38 year old retiring after winning multiple World titles, becoming undisputed champion and having 100 million in the bank should not be a surprise.

This sport is the first to say how sad it is when a fighter continues to fight yet when one chooses to retire after a hard fight which he won somehow this was a bad thing?

Whatever reason Lewis had for retiring it doesn't really matter. Yes a second fight would have been good but that's boxing and ultimately the fight Vitali could have won he didn't. When Lennox was his most vulnerable Vitali failed to take him out. He wasn't owed a rematch because of that.

But Lewis was not at his most vulnerable, he was 38 years old which is not old in heavyweight boxing and still more than capable and as I’ve already said in his post Tyson interview said that he was “like a fine wine”.

Lewis won the fight but imo ran from a rematch or at least knew better deep down.

Well, if in good shape, Haye too might had gave a lot of problems for modern HW boxers.
I think if seriously, for Vitali career not having rematch vs Lewis and Lewis fans opinions about him did not had any serious impact.:p

Defeat vs Lewis matters only for Lewis fans and Lewis fans opinions about him I don't think that ever had worried Vitali.
BTW, I think majority of Vitali fans does not care about this forum and posts here too.
