Mike Tyson had a better career than Larry Holmes.

I should have worded this differently. Apologies.

I meant Witherspoon had lost credibility as a Challenger to Holmes reign after he lost to Thomas and then got destroyed by smith. He had a very yo yo career toward the end of the decade.

People are acting like Witherspoon was always in a position to demand a rematch when this isn't the case. As if Holmes got the win and was happy to escape then just ducked him the rest of the time.

Dude was 28, trained by Dundee, top 3 and and had never been stopped.

He was smart and game against Tyson, but ultimately got destroyed.

Dundee wouldn’t have been there if he were a loser.

    Your post
You literally wrote that Thomas did not get on heroin until AFTER he lost to Tyson. This is false.

You did NOT write anything about him kicking the habit before Tyson. You even argued with me about it and now you're trying to save face. You could have simply said you were wrong or that you worded things incorrectly. But we both know you won't because you're too proud to do that.

Tyson only lost when he was past his best, so it's irrelevant.

And I'm STILL waiting for you to explain WHEN exactly was Holmes supposed to fight Tubbs and Thomas?

At any point between 82 and 85 for Thomas. The M. Spinks match were a sidestep of Thomas, who was the cream of the crop at the time.

Tubbs was more valid than Spinks and Williams in 85.

I weep for mankind when I see the lengths some will go to minimize a victory over a guy who Holmes wanted no part of.

Not minimizing it. Just stating the perception as it was at the time.
It's an excellent win for Tyson, one of his best.

Please direct me to the arguments you’ve made where you downgrade Benitez for burning out early.

Not the strongest crop, but could have been more interesting.

If Spinks had defended against Tucker, with the winner defending against Tyson, then the era would have looked more interesting.

If Cooney had beaten Spinks, you’d say the same thing.

The difference with Spinks Tucker, is that it would have made a more interesting era whoever won, or even if there was a draw.

If Cooney managed to catch Spinks early, Cooney—Tyson would’ve broken all PPV records.
