I've never seen a man paid so much to produce so little. It's embarrassing. Don't feed me any garbage about 'well he may be leaving so they can't get him a good opponent' (a pathetically laughable excuse; why would you not make as much money as possible on someone if it's their last fight with you?!) or 'everyone is ducking him!' (the other big boys at welterweight have no problem fighting each other, even Run Time!). I legitimately don't want to hear it. His two best opponents are an undersized Yuriorkis Gamboa moving up from super-featherweight and Viktor Postol, who was the second-best guy at super-lightweight when Crawford fought him, but while still at-or-around his prime may not even the fourth best guy in the division today. He has no credibility as a welterweight, no resume, no track-record of drawing crowds or money, all he has is a belt from "We're Bob's Organization" and a boring personality that makes people roll their eyes when he starts in on his "they duckin'!" schpeel.
Arum is paying him tho. I don´t think Bud even cares all that much at this point. He is just doing his thing and making some really good money.
Zepeda looked really poor last time out against an old way past prime Lundy and he was bounced up and down off the canvas like a yo-yo by Baranchyk in his previous fight. Vergil Ortiz is his mandatory, Shawn Porter is ranked #2 by the WBO, and Jaron ''Super Boots'' Ennis is ranked #6 by them. That's three good fights against actual 147 pounders right there for him.
If you were paying massive amounts of money for a hall of fame promotor, would you want to do their job for them?
Considering most well-paid boxers did at least a little self-promotion, and that Crawford's blank stare is about as marketable as wet paint, he still deserves at least some of the blame in this regard.
