Personally I think this would be a fabulous matchup!!

But I'm curious, based off another thread that suggests Floyd Mayweather would be food for Tommy Hearns because Floyd "lacks power" and because Tommy has the "reach and power" and because "no one ever outboxed Tommy"....

Well, all those things would remain true against Pernell Whitaker, who had even less power then Floyd Mayweather and was smaller I believe....

So what do you think? Does Tommy embarrass Whitaker also? Or do we have an amazing fight on our hands?

Pea loses for sure. Too small. He may see the final bell.

If Hearns fights smart, he can keep Whitaker from ever being involved in the match. With his jab and reach he can fight over the top of him and negate any southpaw advantage.
He has two things to keep Whitaker honest. First, obviously, is the right hand that Whitaker cannot afford to take lightly. Second, at 147 had a pretty good left hook to the body. He developed it more as the years went by, but it could be the tool to keep Whitaker in place at 47.
Whitaker has one advantage at 47, in that he was probably the more educated guy at the weight. Hearns had a lot of short fights at the weight.

Pea fought a Prime ODLH at 147 in 1997 .. I dont know how you feel about the fight but the scorecards surely didn't represent the fight , it was close !! at least in my book ... And no doubt there is a comparison there with Oscar and Tommy ..Pea is crafty as **** and would give Tommy some problems ... And if we use ODLH as the bench mark , Pea lasts a hell of a lot longer than Floyd

Stylistically there isn't much that Hearns and Oscar have in common. But you raise a valid point in that they were both uneducated compared to Whitaker. It wouldn't surprise me much if Hearns had a tough night with Pernell because Whitaker probably wouldn't let Tommy do whatever he wanted.

I'm guessing that this fight would resemble Trinidad vs Whitaker but Hearns is going to apply more pressure tho. I got Hearns winning by UD.

Tommy Hearns wins 12 out of 12 if he doesn't get the KO. Pea was getting dropped by much lesser fighters at 147.

Hearns was taller and longer than Oscar. He knew how to apply pressure smartly behind that long left jab. The jab could win the fight by itself. If Pea get some damage from the jab or gets mesmerized from it the right cross is coming behind it.
Oscar wasn a green horn who up to that point was a weight bully. He didn't have a balanced two handed attack. His whole game was jumping in with flurries and hoping to land his lefthook. SweetPea was able to make a ****** out him. With that said Pea didn't show much offense himself.
