Lee scored Ryder - Smith for Plankamundo too didn't he? Apart from questionable scoring he's fine by me. Feel like he'll be a bit of a backbencher though, due to his training commitments and the (beautifully phrased) Sweet charlie line parade relating more to the likes of Bellew, who just won't seem to go away. Not sold on Maya Jama who I guess will be a Woolhouse 2.0, solid line up otherwise.
I wonder what's at the root of the Hearn/Bellew relationship. It's almost as if Bellew has some dirt on Hearn and Hearn gives him all these benefits to keep him happy. On the other hand, Bellew goes over-the-top in his praise and support of all things Matchroom. I can't work out who'd doing who the favour.
Yeah he did - thing is with a former boxer like Lee who did well in the sport but probably didn’t make ridiculous money (he probably made a couple of million) he still has to work - he’s not like say Bellew and Froch who made more than enough to not have to wipe their own arses again. He probably has it in the back of his mind if he’s too critical the sweet Sky now DAZN gig will sail away.
Bellew is basically free advertising to his 1 million+ social media followers for Hearn and probably doesn't warrant that much payment as he just absolutely loves the cameras.
Bellew was close to quitting boxing before linking up with Eddie. They never had a contract at Bellews request and never done dirty on each other. Bellew made some purses he could only have dreamed of with Hearn. Bellew was offered a big deal of Haye, by leaving Eddie out it, before he was loaded and he refused even though it was life changing money at the time. Like them or not i can see why they are close.
Yeah, I realized Hearn is why Bellew's even known. While I acknowledge the work he put in, Tony Bellew is the poster boy for how mediocre fighters can be made rich and famous by good promoters. He's the prime example. But I hadn't realized what Bellew had done for Hearn. Loyalty regarding the Haye fight, yeah, that makes sense. Still, I don't see why the viewers at home have to be subjected to Bellew forever because of it.
Story was, he could have fought a journeyman heavyweight on the undercard of Haye vs Mark de Mori on channel Dave or fought for the European title on the Joshua-Whyte undercard against Masternak. Masternak was ranked by all 4 governing bodies too so it set Bellew up for a title shot. The differences in purses won't be as much as Bellew makes out. We know how he loves to exaggerate.
He’s gone for the current Banter Brigade of Jama and ‘Woodsy’ I see. So transparent. Surely old Crouchy, Micah Richards and Jermaine Jenas can’t be far off being appointed too.
The Mismatchroom cards are generally so uncompetitive that for a while now they've become not much more than celebrity appearance type events for the house fighters, well it now seems Eddie has gone to the next level and is bringing in non boxing personalities for celebrity appearances on Matchroom. A logical progression IMO. Anyone know what the Strictly judges are up to ??
Pretty terrible bar Costello Linkedin comments on Matchroom are amazing lol They genuinely think fight camp and the new line up is game changing as programmed by Hearn
Bellew was far better than mediocre to be fair. He was a British, Commonwealth, European and a World Champion. I think underrated by many on here. I woupd say that there has been many better boxers who earned less from sport than him. But fair play to him and Hearm for job they dine there. I think when he isnt talking about Matchroom or someone he is invested in that he is very good. When it is someone he is invested in he is often embarassing and biased.
Both he and Hearn said Bellew was offered a good deal for fight on Hayes bill and a 1m minimum for fighting Haye afterwards. Think he got 80k purse for Mastermeck, which at the time was a very risky fight. If he lost he had nowhere to go.
Made more than that fighting on Sky though. Masternak was tough but he was coming off a loss wasn't he. He'd definitely lost a few months before, not sure if he had a fight inbetween.
Essentially the team appointed are the commentary and presenting team. Like Woolhouse, Nelson, Smith and Macklin are on Sky. Froch, Haye etc will come in as pundits for different events. For instance my guess is the winner of Galahad and Dickens plus Frampton will be on the Warrington vs Lara rematch
