So, after having a poll for the fantasy middleweight super series the eventual winner was Marvin Hagler, closely followed by Roy Jones Jr.

The final was Hagler v Jones.

Seeing as it generated a nice discussion on the merits of each fighter, and highlighted a few names who were missing, I figured I'd see what everyone thought about a heavyweight version.

Now, I thought about it and came to the conclusion that the Marciano, Louis, Dempsey size heavyweights were just too small to realistically be put in the same category as some of the super sized heavyweights.

Seeing as Ali fought and defeated Foreman, a true next generation heavyweight when compared to those guys i mentioned, I figured Ali would be the starting point.

I may have gotten this wrong, but looking back at some of those guys a lot are more like big cruiserweights.
(I acknowledge Wilder is not big by the super heavyweight standard, and Holyfield wasn't really either...but still)

    All that being said, these are my favourite 8 heavyweights who I would put into a winner takes all super series;

    Ali
    Foreman
    Frazier
    Tyson
    Lewis
    Holyfield
    Klitchko
    Fury

Okay, so I know I've left out Holmes, Bowe, Wilder, Joshua etc...but i wanted to try and cover a few generations and you could even argue Foreman is everything Joshua is in terms of size (sort of).

Like I said, these aren't a list of the best 8 heavyweights in order, but my favourite 8 who would offer the most varied styles, and come in all different heights, with different reach etc...

I should also state that it's Vlad Klitchko, and he's there mainly because of longevity and Fury because he's generally considered the best at this moment.

Anyway...ramble over, who do you guys think can win this thing?

    What reason?

Is there anyone you'd like to have seen?

Anyone you think should be there that isn't?

I'll reply in time, but I'd love to see this sort of thing for every weight.

I was thinking about doing one for the pre-Ali heavyweights, you know what I mean?

I noticed you voted for Foreman?

    A connoisseur, very nice.

I went for Lewis, but it's a tough one.

Yeah, I think that'd be decent. Although I reckon Louis and Liston would dominate.

    I haven't voted lol

Ali was a natutal cruiser. Average Weight in 66-67: 208.75 lbs! With modern rehydration Thats cruiser Weight hands down.

Too Light and too short. Standing at only 6'2" according to himself and his trainer and his passport wont be enough for Fury.

Oh, there were 2 votes (one mine) and 2 comments (one mine and one yours) so I assumed.

    Never mind though.

I did kind of feel that too, but, let's remember he did take on and beat Foreman so he was more than capable of holding his own against the bigger men.

It's also why I felt anyone pre-Ali was simply too small.

From the list I picked Lewis.

I like Liston in a super series. I also like Vitali Klitchko.

I'd put money on all 3!

Obviously Ali already beat Foreman and Frazier. Even if I'd have any Ali losing to FOTC Frazier, he'd still lose to Foreman. I think based on real life results, Ali has to go above Foreman and Frazier. Holyfield's style is pretty bad if you're up against Ali. I don't think he'd win do much more than win a couple rounds.

I'm taking Ali from the 2nd Quarry fight btw, that's the best version of him IMO. He was in great condition. Was still unbelievably quick, was a veteran who's tough as ****, and incredibly clever. He just looked unbelievable in that fight.

For me, Tyson is the guy he'd face in the final. I like him over Lewis, Holyfield, Klitschko and Tyson. He's awful for Wlad, and while I think there isn't a big stylistic advantage either way vs Lewis, but I can't see Lewis not taking a massive overhand. Too much speed. I reckon Tyson-Fury would look like a combo of Tyson-Tucker and Tyson-Smith. Fury starts well, but is nailed a few times and by the end is reduced to running and holding. Loses a clear decision.

Tyson can absolutely beat Ali in a twleve rounder. The fast start, great left hook and counter to the jab, with excellent body work and ring-cutting. Ali's jab to the body wouldn't do much at all, vs Tyson. I think what'd be the trick is Ali's speed and more importantly, strength. He'd be able to tie Tyson up and would likely keep away from him as needed. The problem is that Tyson would tire and his workrate would drop, and Ali could do another version of the rope-a-dope. I think he'd take over once Tyson tired, winning a close decision over twelve and a clear one over fifteen.

I think the finals would depend on the pre-lim elimination matchups. I'm certain Lennox would be in the finals, who else would be in the finals would depend on who fights who.

Lennox would come out on top.

    Brilliant analysis.

There's so many permutations and variables.

Remember though, each fighter is frozen in time at the absolute peak of their powers.

I mean, could you image a prime Mike Tyson dealing with the height, weight, and reach advantage Fury would have?

What's more, if there's any short heavyweight that could find a way it's prime Iron Mike.

Lewis was my pick in the end.

Such a great fighter, and, bizarrely, often forgotten.

Definitely, in this kind of knock out format a lot of it is who faces who.

I didnt want to create actual match ups because then you have to assume a winner each time, then the same for the next round, and so on.

I think it's nicer to let everyone imagine their own face offs at each stage - but pick an overall winner and then vote for them.

Dependent on who faces who but if you were to run this 20 times, I would go with Lewis winning the most amount of times.

    Lewis got my vote too.

Who do you think deserves to face him in the final?

Fury would be an intriguing match up.
