Hmmm...good point. Maybe, not as mobile you are right. I have to confess I've been a bit distracted this evening as England were playing in a big football match so I wasn't completely focused on what I was doing. No excuses, I conceed you are probably right.
That's a really hard question to answer, but Lewis would of course Ali a few problems. Ali was slick Lewis was not as much of a mover but that wasn't his style. Lewis had a better chin and could keep opponents at distance with his reach and jab but was very accurate with the big shots. Not disrespecting Ali was a great boxer and not saying Lewis would win but but don't see it as a walk over, Lewis had more power. Ali was a very clever fighter and was very hard to find in his prime. Noticed someone said about Tyson vs fury. Mike was a legend but in the form fury is in right now. Yh Tyson could do it but would have to be in the first four rounds before he starts to gas. Tyson is one of the most explosive fighters ever, love that spartan ethos. But if Fury could weather those first few rounds he slows up and the flaws in his defense show up.
Imagine that pure version of Mike, the prime, fearless, devastating Iron Mike up against the best version of Fury. You are right that it could be a torrid few rounds for Fury at the start, but one would expect his boxing brain to figure it out, with him going through the gears and keeping Mike at range. Whether he could do it though...it's debatable. Fury hasn't faced anyone like Prime Tyson and we've seen Fury can be caught and put on his backside.
When did Lewis develop a better chin than Ali who had arguably the best ever chin in boxing. You must forget Lewis who I love and admire’s knockout losses to McCall and Hashim Rahman.
To be honest we don’t even know if Fury is the best of his era. He needs to fight and defeat a certain Anthony Joshua which is far from certain he can or will.
Have to agree there - on the eye test he looks the best of this era, but his inactivity means he doesn't have the resume to back it up... His win over Klitschko is a better one than AJ's, but his next best win is Wilder whose level is itself obscured by a hollow resume. Fury seems to have all the attributes that make a great - he's got good stature in terms of height and reach, he's got good movement, good fundamentals, tactical flexibility and ring IQ coupled with very good recovery when hurt. Fury's biggest weakness to date, IMHO, is the same as Lewis's - they struggle with motivation for some fights and wind up looking far less impressive than they do at their best against lesser opponents than ones they've beaten in style.... In big fights, they both turn it on, which takes this weakness out of the picture in the context of this thread.
Agreed. For all the attacks from his detractors, and any weaknesses he may or may not have, and assuming he gets past Usyk, Joshua is still the only credible opponent for Fury if he beats Wilder. There is no other fight I would find acceptable as a boxing fan.
I can see it, totally. But, something is nagging away at me and is stopping me from being 100% positive about it.
Is the only negative to Fury his "relative" lack of power? He is called pillow fisted etc...which i think is silly, but does he have the kind of power to knock out any one on the list? We know he can box smart to a points decision, but can he put it on a Lewis or an Ali and actually dent them?
