The Ring belt is not synonymous with the Lineal Championship. It hasn't been for a long time. Regardless, I think this sort of stuff just adds unnecessary confusion. I understand The Ring wants to reward guys who take on challenges, but no matter what happens it still leaves us not knowing who "the man" is at 147, so long as Crawford is around is #2. The Ring did this #1 vs. #3 stuff with Inoue-Rodriguez, Linares-Crolla, and Smith-Groves, as well, and I wasn't a fan.

 

They also decided that Wilder v Fury was #1 v #2, which was a nonsense as well.
