But what did Moorer do to prove he was on that level, huh?

The weigh in rules tip it to Moorer for me more than anything else. Lopez much more proven at 175.

Yeah, a lot of people seem to think so. Do not get it. They're the same height, and a young Moorer doesn't look like "a monster" at the poundage to me, at all. He's not some huge, dominant LHW that monstered the fighters in his own time,

When Lopez himself moved up to 190lbs he didn't look like a big CW, but he had no problem, at all, banging even De Leon back to the ropes and certainly wasn't monstered out of the division.

I don't think an 18 hour weigh in provides Moorer with any kind of size advantage at all, especially as we know Lopez himself can happily carry 185 to the ring.

Moorer was struggling to make weight for some time i believe. He put on almost 40 pounds in 4 months when he jumped straight to heavyweight and didn't get any smaller. I think he'd pop some good weight on between the weigh in and fight and be better off for it. Lopez was making 175 for a long long time and it's safe to say Moorer was the bigger guy.

Of course he's also less proven as i said. He hits huge and Lopez often shipped a bit. I'd have to favor Moorer tho i'd cheer for Lopez.

18 hr weight in is a little tricky.
Same day I got Lopez coupled with it being 15.
18 hr. Gives Moorer some breathing room.
Lopez faces some murderous punchers but Moorer may possibly be the hardest hitter.
I'm going Lopez by a hair. Tougher mentally. Been in the much much tougher fights and kept his kool. Alot of experience. I think he barly escapes the early rounds then breaks Moorers spirit.

Lopez can win this on points. Moorer is the most unproven, overrated light-heavy on the forum. Lopez only really lost to the best in his prime and Moorer never showed he was that at 175.

Michael Moorer is esb's TUAMINATOR of 175lbs. The forum version is vastly exaggerated compared to what we actually see.

Moorer was weighing roughly 200 when he was defending the WBO title, with 30-36 hours after the weigh in.
How well he could handle the cut to 175 with half the time to recover would have great bearing on the outcome of this fight.

I know a guy that fought him for the WBO title. He told me that he was huge, he put his weight at 200.

It's not that the 18 hour weigh in gives him a size advantage, it's that he simply has time to recover from the hell that was him making 175. I remember reading interviews with him about how brutal that weight cut was for him.

If he fought at 175 during same day weigh-ins he would not be in any condition to fight.

Moorer as light heavyweight was a beast and was as intimidating at that weight as Hearns was at welterweight

Lopez at 185 or 190 at the tail end of his career means nothing and he was stopped in 4 by DeLeon. A lot of guys play out the string at a higher weight.
If he could have "happily" carried the weight when he was hungry and in the hunt, why didn't he?

    Lopez on points

The fight McGrain skipped over really showed Moorers vulnerabilities against a good boxer This was the fight against the skilled but jaded Leslie Stewart. The fight as about even on points when Stewart got caught and it was stopped pretty quickly without him tasting the canvas. Lopez was more durable and could survive some rocky moments to outbox the straight ahead Moorer.

Maybe because there was no CW division for most of his prime.

He was stopped on a cut. I don't see the relevance? I think what I wrote was that he wasn't outmonstered at the weight, and he wasn't.

For the same reason almost every single fighter who can carry weight at a higher weight doesn't?

    That's an odd post.
