And great combos. One should just enjoy the guy. He was brilliant to watch. Still is actually. Loved how he rolled back the years against RJJ.

After all the replies that I've read, It seems that one, I somehow was to harsh on Tyson. Two, yes I agree that Tyson combination of accuracy, Timing & handspeed was the source of his power. But when it comes to naturally, I don't think so, Tyson's power after he went out of prison in my opinion is kinda gone.. His power was totally lost because his youth wasn't there anymore, Tyson needs his youth to pack that helluva punch. While boxers like sonny liston are monstrous even though they aged .You guys know that liston debuted at 30 right ? Well, that's when Tyson kinda lost (completely lost in my opinion) his power. So I agree that Tyson does hit hard, but naturally, I don't thinks so. Still not top 10 for me.. Sorry

Tyson scored one of his most impressive one punch KOs well...after prison, and while in bad shape after a layoff. He just hits hard, man.

Tyson's punching ability wasn't diminished until he blew his knee out....and understandably so.

But ok, if after prison is not I hope you'll agree that his power was starting to fade away

He had excellent overall power. It's only when we abstract that he diminishes a bit. He didn't have the power of a Shavers or Wilder right, but he didn't loop as much as them, either (he was also a phenomenally better finisher). He didn't have the brute strength of a Foreman, but he was faster (power) and more accurate. A guy like Liston was overall more brutish, and wasn't far away in terms of hand speed and accuracy.

Man, I thought that this was a Mark Ant alt but I see no mention of gorillas or horses or giraffes so I guess it's not him.

Physically I think Mike looked incredible in his comeback. Most of us did then. Maybe not as fast as when he was in his early 20s but who is? He still had the quickest hands in the division and his power was still effective. Let's ask Bruno if he felt a difference...lol. In Holyfield 2 he was as impressive a physical specimen as ever...just off his damn rocker mentally.

Botha was the first fight he looked truly diminished, not just an off night, but physically on a true decline. He never found his form again, maybe against Golota he flashed some old speed and movement.

Sorry for getting personal. I just think it goes without saying that Tyson had elite power. His timing, speed, and skill were certainly a part of that power. But, having seen over 50 of Tyson's fights, it is quite clear that his power is devastating. The reactions of his opponents to some of his punches were frightening. (watch any of his first 25 fights, Frazier, Berbick, Spinks, Williams, Bruno, Golota, Botha, etc. Many of these men were never destroyed like that either before or after Tyson)

In the early to mid 90's he was.

    He needed more than Lewis.
Louis was a great combo puncher, but he couldn't do as much damage with a single punch as Lewis.

No he did not. P4P, sure, he definitely hits harder, but overall for 1 punch power he cannot compare to Wladimir, Lewis, Liston, Foreman, Tyson, Wilder

    Yes it is.
Punching power derives from speed and mass, combined with proper punching technique. Tyson had them all.

No he did not. Tyson punches were usually crisp and compact in his prime, he only threw caution to the wind when he had his man hurt.

He's no such thing, you are clueless. Tyson weighed 130 pounds as a 13 year old. Before going to prison, he did not work with weights at all.

Again, you are clueless. Tyson had one of the fastest hands in HW history, and he had way more than enough snap.

The way it looks is one thing, the impact it causes is another. Tyson was huge puncher.

Watch his fights with Nielsen and Etienne and then come back to me. Bare in mind that he was slower and pretty much shot by then, yet he still KOd them with 1 punch.

He may not be top 10, but some of the guys on your list definitely don't hit as hard as him: Louis, Marciano, Shavers, Lyle, Cooney.

    Garbage list.
Shavers is nowhere near the top 5. He's the only to whom your quote at the beginning actually applies: "When he punch, he punches like his life depended on it".
Louis and Marciano are also nowhere near the top 5.

The top 5 are: Wladimir K., Liston, Foreman, Lewis, Wilder.

All respect, but faster hands than Holyfield? I didn't see that.

Looked to me as though Holy in the second Tyson was doing exactly what he did in the first fight: out-intimidating, out-muscling him again on his way to victory. Both men were fouling...I do agree it seemed that Mike panicked early, seeing he was probably going to lose again, and took the ugly way out.

In fact, the second Holy fight is the only time I questioned Mike's heart...but his shield-carrying kos by Douglas and Lewis banished those suspicions

Shaver is nowhere near the top 5? lol

No offense, but good luck selling that one. Iron chinned Ali said he never got hit harder...and he got hit flush by Frazier, Foreman, Cooper, Lyle. Holmes said the same thing, Tillis....

I'm hoping you're joking. Wlad was a very good puncher, but no harder than Lewis, Tyson, Louis...

Tyson has broken more ribs and eye sockets than all in the HWs. Many of his opponents never said the truth to the press about the injuries suffered during their fights with Tyson.

I'm thinking of Liston and Foreman and I'm not sure you're accurate there.

Ali was not hit flush by Foreman. Plus, Ali exaggerated a lot, he praised all the big punchers he faced.
And no, Shavers is nowhere near the top 5, he's incredibly overrated.

Steward trained both Lewis and Wlad and said Wlad hit way harder.
Don't even bring up Louis, cause he doesn't belong here.
