Belts are crucial for advertising and attracting those fans who have a fleeting interest in the sport. Dillian Whyte has to be the most decorated fighter to NEVER win a world title. Never see a picture of him without some oversized WBC strap around him.

You are comparing apples with beef. UFC is one organisation in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, a sport with maybe more world champs than boxing, there so many organisations!

You're kidding yourself if you really believe more people tune in because a WBA pudding belt whatever is on the line.

Its just a shakedown, nothing not, nothing less.

Well, there we are go. MMA does have different orgs, KB too.
If earlier had been assumed that these does have more champs and are not important.
Now boxing orgs does have huge bunches with different belts: franchise, in recess, regular, super, silver, diamond, internim, international, inter continental.
With such bunch of belts _____
Okey, I think it is reasonable to have national, regional, continental belts, this even is close to oly wrestling or boxing. Okey, they does have cups and medals in such kind of tournaments.
I think pro boxing should be more open: they should create promotion's belts cos in reality these champs already are under some from 5-10 most impactful promotions in the world and it looks relatively close to UFC btw.

    For you maybe yeah.
Casual beginner - boxing fan for sure might be attracted to press button buy ppv for event where belts are on line and sorry, majority of bills are paid by casuals ( tickets, ppv sales ) not hardcore critics.

    No, UFC is THE organisation.
It is widely recognised as the highest accolade a fighter can achieve in the MMA world, all other organisations are where has-beens go when there career at the top is over.

The reality is that we will never eliminate other organisations but we can discredit them and devalue them to the point where they are barely acknowledged.

UFC is a(n) organistion; the biggest organisation, but other organisations have their fans too.

And it is nice to know their are still fans who are not too cynical to believe discrediting organisations will devalue them; but The US Boxing Championship (The Ring) the splitting of the WBA (leading to, in order, WBC, IBF and then the WBO) and the Bob Lee conviction (IBF) suggests if you start with no credit to begin with, you cannot have any taken away from you!

Casuals do buy more PPV but it has nothing to do with pointless belts on the line. Even they know it's bollocks.

Actually even for non casuals these pointless belts had mean't some hierarchy and rights to climb up in org rankings etc, this is hierarchy like thing.
Now when they does have franchise and in recess, regular, intercontinental, international is too much.

For example I don't know in depth about WBA hierarchy while meaning about WBC belts or WBO, IBF I know more.

Casual sport media with journalists are in modern days more about non combat sports and this is reality, combat sports are niche.
If there is some belt on line, then casual not boxing oriented journalists too are a bit interested.
This too means a lot, far more than combat sport fans might think.

Casuals does not know how evalue matchmaking in pro boxing to buy card, usually.
You see: there is some pair X and Y and if I dig deeper ( in modern days laziness is modern curse ) : who they had fought with even in ams and who their opponents had fought, it is interesting.
If some guy had won in ams vs " amateur " who had 5 medals at world championship, he maybe is not that bad at all? At least he does knows what he is doing even if he isn't Olympic medalist etc.

Casual fans loves well known names, connection with well known names, after this: entertaining fights.
Still if there are well known names and very boring fight, attention migh be higher than for best value for not well known names fights: very impressively looking fight with KDs and KOs.

There is reason why sometimes even ppl with 0-0-0 pro boxing record might get high purses etc.
The same wrestler, ex MMA fighter , well known name vs YT lad?
Retired well known elite boxer vs MMA star? Vuala.
Next step might be musicians, actors and otherwise well known ppl in the ring.

Casuals too depends how you evalue them: part from these still are far more skilled than other part.

Still it is very easy to sell hyped up fighters who did not had fought anyone from real top and actually are worse than Chisora etc level for sure and still with good pr and matchmaking ppl might believe that someone is even camp in x weight classes while he did not even had in the ring Campbell shape/ skills level opponent and all is cool. World beater is born in this world.
