There are more modern men-Remember that the folks most are presenting, & Hearns, did not have the advantage larger men would have of say before weigh ins. So guys who would effectively be at least LHWs under the old rule sets would be fighting a man who was small for his division, & best at Lighweight! There is no way any boxer, no matter how skilled, can be expected to dominate the best in the world when their natural size, height, reach, muscle, power-is a few divisions & a large percentage higher! This is harder to do than someone who has a big frame who gets down artificially low. Such as Hearns struggling to make same day WW in some fights.
What he did to Jirov far from his home weight tells me he would have no issues with a former old school actual 135lbs LW.
Barring a freak cut i agree. He's about as unknockoutable as it gets. We saw Monzon hurt badly against Briscoe before recovering nicely. We never saw Hagler in such a position ever.
He slaughtered Nunn and McCallum in the last few rounds - nobody is slaughtering them from start to finish (lol!). Duran is a small guy coming forward, not a slick young southpaw mover from range like Reggie Johnson. I can’t get my head around so many posts on here. Having said that, Duran wouldn’t be slaughtered by a static, patient Toney. He’s too cute.
Why do you say that? He didn’t fight any true punchers at the weight, Hearns and Mugabi were coming up. Look at Hagler’s head - it’s actually quite small.
Word games again? We saw that tall rangey Kronk style was Duran’s kryptonite - he’s too short and too small for McClellan. Duran is great at slipping inside on the front foot, McClellan is tall, rangey and talented enough to keep him at distance (strong enough to grab him and shove him back if need be) and let the right hand go when Duran’s being static and patient. Ouch.
Hagler was better at finishing opponents at 160 than Toney was judging by there title fights at that weight, Duran and Leonard were the only challengers to Hagler`s belt that were able to see the final bell.
G-man was a lot easier to hit v Benn than Duran was in his fights, Duran`s skill level was above anybody that G-man fought.
lol! Hearns stopped Andries who was a light heavy, he stopped the tough Roldan and knocked Schuler out in a round, Hagler was tough as hell, hard to hit and an amazing counter puncher with a long reach, Hagler was an insane middle, amazing fighter.
