Pep is somehow underrated and overrated, but you could say that about a lot of fighters at that time. Won't deny that he is one of the greatest to ever do it; top five imo.
They should do a movie on the life of this very underrated fighter. He survived a plane crash getting Champion again. One of the greatest comeback in boxing history together with Paz and Foreman.
Sven Ottke spoke very highly of Mundine's skill set after their match. That's high praise IMO. Say what you want about Sven, but lacking in skill he wasn't.
A couple of fighters that I used to love watching for various reasons include Buster Mathis Jr for his defensive style, Sven Ottke without a doubt, Paul Ingle and his bobbing and weaving, Emanuel Augustus because of the obvious, Paul Spadafora, all of Marciano's top opponents. I never cared for him as much as his opponents, especially the ole' Mongoose. Larry Donald and Lawrence Clay Bey, who could've really been something. Keith holmes.
Most of Mundine's prime was spent playing Rugby League at the top level. He had to reshape his body for boxing, which took time and training. Without doubt he was supremely talented and had he only focused on boxing for his entire life he would have been world champion. He was a couple of rounds alway from beating Ottke who is definitely overrated but a very good boxer. I rate Loma, Usyk, GGG, Beterbiev, Rigondeaux, Inoue, Chocolatito, Estrada, Spence. The things that automatically cross a fighter off my list are: ducking and cheating either via PEDs, referees, judges, catch weights, etc.
Inoue has had a way better career than Loma, hasn’t lost, is way more dominant in his fights, and still has way more of his career left. Loma can only dream of becoming undisputed or a four division champion, the feat is easy for Inoue.
The problem is, the EE fighters fans start praising their heros even if they are unproven. Constantly claim how the EE fighters would beat all US ATG's with ease. Always using the Am's to jusyify their claims. There are some EE fans that are biased, hypocritcal and very disrespectful. So yes, I will root against EE fighters not because they are from the EE, but because their over the top fans don't deserve to see their heros victorious. It happened with Golovkin(Not EE), Kovalev and Loma. Pure gold, reading the anguished posts from the broken hearted fans. All the excuses and anger. I love it.
Tyson Fury He has an indomable fighting spirit, the likes of which compares to Ali. That ring is his territory and he will die for it.
I put Inoue and Loma in the same bracket purely based on the fact that one has P4P skills with highly effective offensive prowess while the other has P4P KO punching power and a highly effective level of boxing fundamentals and ring IQ. Inoue's offense is the best I've seen perhaps in the last 10 years, he literally cripples world class opposition with a single punch which is quite the rarity at the lower weights and I honestly think that Inoue has plenty left to achieve and show us in his career. Loma really needs to rematch and defeat Lopez to get his legacy defining career back on track.
You normally are pure gold to get entertainment. Most likely you are thinking: am boxing is only piece of **** while even the same US and UK boxing managers and boxer's promoters are lurking here for potential prospect. In all levels, from medium level till big tournaments. You are thinking that all pro boxing stars in US usually had been developed from basement while even Mike had been picked cos he had proved that he is able to drop ppl in am fights. LOL. Am sucks, am is nothing. Then if about respect, posters like you are shitting on all EE and even just euro boxers during more than decade in their posts while any excuse for fighter who likes you is valid and damn cool always. Also no one enough serious about boxing takes care about this stuff: what do you think. No one cares. No one. Expect to get fun for free.
