The Hagler that took apart Hamsho and Dismantled Sibson would break Canelo down as well.

Well Canelo struggled with Golovkin's jab so I suspect that he may have the same problem with Hagler. MMH has a bit more speed and snap to his punches so I would probably put money on him being able to outbox Canelo. That said, I don't think it would be an easy fight; Canelo is better than most of Hagler's opponents.

Canelo is a fine fighter. Hagler was an absolute beast of a boxer, a legitimate great, and gives up no style advantage here and has a reach advantage. The existence of the poll, though natural given Canelo's status now and Hagler's all-time standing, is actually an admission of an underrating of Marvin.

It is possible - not probable, but possible - that there are no fighters the same size as Marvin Hagler who could beat him in his absolute prime. That is how good he was. He's one of those.

They would not be. The key is in fantasy & real fights make Canelo make weight 4 hrs before the fight like in the 70s

Sarcasm aside, would you really favor Canelo?

Canelo could be his best true MW win. I think IF Saul puts an effort in and wants to FIGHT he will do enough to keep his head held high after, even If he get's stopped late. Marvin would likely dominate the second fight In the other scenario where Saul just tries to survive In a rematch for the judges decision.

Despite the caveat, despite the hedging for appearances sake, that comment reads like true love to me.

Smart. Never get in the way of love.

To be fair Canelo at his best is at 168 Hagler never fought at that weight...

I think Hagler is wrong for Canelo.

We have to assume that you are taking the 154 version of Canelo because that's the closest thing to 160 Hagler in rehydration terms.

While I have come around to the opinion that Canelo is a fine boxer, it's undeniable that he has a few weaknesses. Those being: his susceptibility to a great jab, his somewhat slow feet and his tendency to gas if the pace is too high. Add to this the fact that he is usually the faster guy and when he has faced faster fighters (Khan, Bivol, Crawford) he has looked kind of pedestrian.

Canelo has a good fighting brain, good timing and big power. He often figures out the other dude's pattern and then drops the house on him. Hagler is faster than Canelo and very versatile. He will be hard to "figure out" and moreover, he has a fantastic chin that will allow him to survive anything short of a nuke. Canelo's rather slow footwork will make it hard to impose himself on Hagler.

I think Canelo could make it close, and I think Hagler would be ill advised to brawl with him, but I think if Hagler fights smart he should be able to outbox and outwork ginger down the stretch. Hagler on points.
