Boring opener, was expecting fireworks. Both fighting cautiously.

10-9 García, stuck his jab in Silvens' face pretty insistently at least, although not many scored cleanly.

 

Silvens coming on a bit in the fourth. He's stepping past García's jabs, jab feints, and low-speed half-hearted usually-missing-or-blocked straight combos up top and plopping some torpedo rights into the gut (which is only half the doughy girth of his own but stil considerable).

Aaand, then he walks into a flush 1-1-2.

God this contest is dreadfully bereft of skill, gracefulness or explosivity. Even for this division.

Unclear actually whether he quit (and was removing his gear), or his corner was in the process of fixing tape on his gloves and just couldn't answer the bell in time. No matter, whether a bottle job or team incompetence, goes down as the same result either way.

 

Ángel Adoni Cruz Johnson vs. Julio Alberto de Jesús Rodríguez, 8 rounds @ welterweight

 

Cruz is 3-0 (3) having fought nobody to pave the way to a step up like this, while de Jesús is 27-2 with 24 of his victories and both losses by stoppage (knocked out early by Victor Manuel Cayo and Kanat Islam in his only international excursions, all his success coming domestically). Both are Dominican. Search me as to who's 'supposed' to be favored here...

 

HOT DAMN THAT WAS SWEET!

Cruz set a fiery pace for the first couple of minutes, applying pressure with power shots; I was beginning to wonder how long he could sustain that without gassing and then de Jesús' legs stiffened a bit from something catching him on the button and Cruz just went haywire, launching a four or five alternating hands fast & powerful uppercut volley, everything clipping the underside of de Jesús' chin until he fell.

KO1!!!!!

 

That celebratory vertical leap Cruz started doing before de Jesús' ass even hit the canvas..

Tucked his knees up to his shoulders and his feet were at like chest height.

edit: and now he does a perfect Ninja Turle standing backflip as they announce the official result. Kid is some athlete.

 

Heavyweights aside this has been a great card, not sure why nobody except @kiwi_boxer and I are watching.

Well if you were expecting that would be La Avispa like I was, they seem to have put them in reverse order. Rosa Pacheco is headlining, apparently. Puello is about to fight.
