Almost every video I've seen, people are saying that Pacquiao is at a disadvantage in this southpaw-southpaw matchup. Why is Pacquiao the one that will have to make adjustments and not Spence? Is it because of Spence's reach? Also, Spence is facing the best southpaw in history, so shouldn't the advantage go to Pac?
Largely because of Pac's size and age in comparison to ESjr. ESjr is not fighting a prime Pac who tore people up. This is a much different version who doesn't have the same pop or ferocity he once did. Pac can't go in to this fight reckless or with high expectations IMO. I think he has to box smart and take advantage of any openings that ESjr gives him.
Instead of acting like a sissy girl hater, you should be celebrating this matchup and the fact that 42 year old Pac has the balls to take on the consensus #1 welterweight in the biggest fight of the year.
Experience. Power. I'd also say skills. But he is undersized massively. Spence is a Margarito-sized WW, but with skills. And this isn't the same Pac that fought Margo.
In terms of a match up of styles Pac has a clear and distinct advantage. We've seen Spence struggle when he backed up like vs Brook and Porter and having learned that Castano beat him decisively in the amateurs it only reinforces my belief that Spence can't fight on the back foot, he's a come forward aggressor and usually that's always been the style Pac has thrived facing. Usually styles makes fights and Pac definitely has the style to beat Spence, problem is here isn't styles or even size, it's age. Pac is no longer the fighter he was, he's slower, he doesn't set the pace he once did and tends to fade late where Spence usually is at his best.
Pac is at a huge disadvantage. Against Thurman, he was only effective for about 8 rounds. He was tired in the 2nd half of the fight. This was 2 years ago. Pac is old. His stamina is questionable these days. He's at a size, height, reach and youth advantage. I don't think he even has a speed advantage anymore at age 42 and he's been inactive. The only thing he has over Spence is experience. That's about it. I don't give him a good chance to win this fight.
No, not everything. He doesn’t have a better chin than Margarito. I doubt he has the same heart as Margarito, a man who would literally die in the ring. He’s not as tall as Margarito. Despite being nearly as big, he’s still not as big or bigger than Margarito. I doubt he hits harder than Margarito. based on his fight with Danny, Porter and Mikey, I’m 100% certain he wouldn’t have been able to break Cotto down as Margarito did.
That’s the narrative people like you want to put out there but the truth is Spence skills would be a problem for Pacquiao same as Floyd and Marquez.
