GGG most likely does knows that some percentage of ppl like some % from this forum NEVER will appreciate him even if he had 1000-0-0 pro record with 1000KOs. yes. i was well aboard the ggg hypetrain back then. and yes, he was avoided by a lot of guys who had something to lose. but that still leaves him with the resume hes got. and thats gonna be what he is ultimately judged on historically. he should have gone up to 168 in his prime. everyone, especially his own team, said he had the power, and he certainly has the skill, so why didnt he? he talked about going up for the right fight, why not for the resume? because its always been about money, not legacy. now hes fighting the same level guys he was fighting before canelo. how much is a win over murata going to enhance his legacy? so i dont give him the same passes he got when they were avoiding him, because now its him avoiding legacy enhancing fights.

IF old GGG will beat Murata, it is not warranted. GGG is old and had last fight Deceber 2020. Resume and legacy is thing valued only by hardcore boxing fans interested also in boxing history and _______history specialists. When you are inactive, general society doesn't cares who you had fought and beat or lost. Oscar helped him a lot of course, Mosley fight still had put him on big notice: Mosley had fought Pacman, Floyd Jr, Winky, DLH etc notable boxers. Good matchmaking cos he was 38 y.o and didn't had won even 1 fight in his last 3 fights. Younger Mosley was more dangerous of course.
thats fine, he can be loyal to his personal interest, just like im loyal to mine. and my interest is seeing great fighters fight the great fights. not the most lucrative fights. so he can enjoy all the money his interest made him, and i will criticize him for not fighting the fights that interest me. we both have that right, as its my money fulfilling his interest..
Most of it was Oscar, GBP, and HBO grooming him to be the next superstar. But you might have a point Surrix, Shane was the first big name he fought.
A younger, prime version GGG vs prime Kovalev...that would have been something to behold. Do you think that's a bit too much for GGG though? Sparring doesn't always tell the full story, and context matters a lot.
It probably was too much for Golovkin at the time given Kovalev is a light heavyweight and defeated a crafty veteran in Bernard Hopkins with ease and arguably beating Andre Ward in their first fight. Kovalev had two good wins in Jean Pascal and Bernard Hopkins on his resume and seemed more proven at the elite level when the sparring rumors came out. I'd have loved to see him fight Carl Froch because those two styles would've meshed very well together. I don't think 168 would have been a ''bridge too far'' for Golovkin and the boxing public would have seen more exciting fights and he'd have likely got big paydays fighting against the likes of Groves and Froch. His management team seemed to be hanging around waiting and assessing the situation with Canelo then pre-planned the fight before Canelo's Chavez Jr matchup.
Agreed. A prime Kovalev might have been a bit too much for GGG. That said, when you get down to it there isn't a lot of difference between someone like Froch and GGG size wise. They are both in the ring at well over 160-168. Sure, Froch might have been a few pounds heavier, but not to the point it would have been unfair. Had GGG moved up earlier in his career I've no doubt that fight could have happened. Do you think there's any merit to the argument GGG was a bit of a weight bully at 160 - an advantage which would have been nullified at 168 - and that's why he never moved up?
Because 168 is a wasteland, there's nothing there. When he did try to make fights in that division they fell through.
