It’s funny looking back at how disappointed people were that Canelo tried to outbox Floyd instead of using a pressure type style. In hindsight he was fighting his fight but wasn’t quick enough for Floyd. He pretty much was facing an older quicker wiser version of himself that night. In and out of the ring.
Canelo was the bigger guy. People expected him to use his physical advantages instead of countering a faster, longer and wiser man.
I get that, I’m simply stating that in hindsight we’re able to see that he’s not that type of fighter. We learned that he’s more of a Floyd fighter than JCC Sr fighter that night. Maidana would have more than likely gotten KO’d by Canelo but he had more success vs Floyd because he fought an awkward aggressive pressure style because that’s how he fight..
He's not a fighter who typically uses his physical advantages. He doesn't lean on fighters in the clinch. He generally stays outside and goes inside on occasion, so there was no reason to expect Canelo would deviate from his usual style vs Mayweather. It was always going to be a chess match, I don't know why anyone would expect differently.
Wish we saw Mayweather fight ATG pressure fighters. You still have to wonder what was going though Reynoso's head during that match. People might have thought Canelo wanted to win.
