I agree with Mark on this one, Raging Bull for me. Fantastic acting, tragic story, very visceral fight scenes...and DeNiro - Pesci. What more do you need? On a more Hollywood popcorn front Gladiator isn't bad, and Cinderalla Man is okay. Anyone know the name of the one where Christian Bale plays the trainer? I think the character is Irish, and he's all gaunt. Also, there's a personal favourite of mine called The Power of One. It's set in South Africa in the 40s (i think) and stars Morgan Freeman and Stephen Dorff. Dorff is a young kid, a white South African, and Freeman is a black coach. It's a beautifully shot movie, dealing with the racism and upheaval in South African society and the power of sport to unite. It's a proper uplifting message movie with wonderful performances and some great boxing stuff. I originally read the book as a kid before it was turned into a film. I can't recommend it enough.
After the last round is a great documentary and free on YouTube. It’s a very tough watch but really makes you appreciate what these warriors go through and the risks they take. HBO legendary nights are also great.
I like hard times with charles bronson. Charles bro was jack dempsey and trained him. He was also friends and trained with bruce lee and ali. He uses good jabs bodyshotsand technique in films. Charles was chuck norrises daddy. I also like the power of one with morgan freeman and stephen dorf
It's funny you mention that one because i just watched it last night on showtime. I agree, truly truly an incredible film. They did a wonderful job of capturing the moments in time that Sonny dominated in and the parts where he wasn't.
Looks like a film written by some limp wristed left wing so called liberal ***** who wants boxing banned
