James Toney found the right punches too late against Jose Torres, scoring with right hands to the body and a high, cuffing hooked right all the way on the inside throughout the final third but only after having been pegged back and peppered with short, sharp combos through the first nine rounds. Torres seemed in complete control through five and streaked ahead on the scorecards only for a fascinating tussle to emerge eleven through fourteen. In the fifteenth, Toney's reliance upon Torres to bring pressure was revealed however, as the Puerto Rican stood off and forced a clearly trailing Toney to force the fight. Both men remained sharp at the bell but Torres was the clear winner for his early work.

I don`t if Toney had good stamina at 175, he looked sluggish in his fights at 175 and out of shape.

Yeah they were kind of close and boring. But he won those fights, even the Thadzi fight. You know Floyd Mayweather would have gotten those decisions for sure.

He looked skilled. Just not in tip top shape But in OK shape. He had some decent outings in lesser opponents: Duran Williams, Hembricks, Griffin (which he won IMO), Delgado.

The Griffin fights looked bad, Montel was a boring negative fighter, Toney could only fight fighters that came towards him so he could counter, he struggled v McCallum, but Mike threw more than Griffin did so Toney was able to counter him well.

Well I think Toney won close bouts against both Mc Callum and Griffin. Do not forget Griffin "beat" prime Roy.
