Solid career. Sadly for him, the division is too stacked for him to get a title so he was probably gonna be used as a top tier gatekeeper. None the less, he did well as a pro and sadly didn't win a world title.

I liked him, he had bags of skill and didn't look too out of place against the champs when he stepped up. I admire the way he put personal grief to one side and focused on his world title attempt.

However, fights against the best didn't happen enough. This might sound harsh and against the general tone of the thread but there was just too much inactivity in his prime years against opponents who were domestic level, tin cans or washed up long past their best fighters. He should have been on a crest of a wave after the Olympics but I just felt the matchmaking didn't do his ability justice and he got caught out against Mendy as a result.

Added to the underwhelming match making (imo) he outgrew the weight towards the end. I just feel overall he was poorly guided and it served against him.

Definitely. He wasn’t one of Eddie’s faves. He wasn’t a knob though like Bellew and Froch was he so maybe that’s why.

Fair play. Did well during his career. Floored Garcia with a great punch.

Same with Callum Smith. Both likeable and come from fairly big Northern cities so potential for a good fan base but because they don’t get involved in all the trash talk Hearn has never seemed bothered by either.

Classic boxer was Campbell ever since I saw him in the 2008 ABA finals.

A career to be very proud of, wish you all the best in retirement Luke.
