To me Whitaker gave himself more than argument for winning with defense and no frills jab and moving.

Khataev was always going to come forward and have the "highlight" moments, so Ben's best chance was to not meet him head on and peck his way to victory.

Dumb ass Irish boxer hurt his ankle jumping around after he won his fight. Won't be able to fight in the semi finals. Adain Walsh.

Abduraimov got rocked to his socks early in the second. He needs to stay alert, because the Armenian's shots can switch his lights out if he leaves himself vulnerable to many at once.

Bachkov a little like a mini Khyzhniak.

Just volume and aggression. Not a lot of power but enough to know he is scoring clean.

Damn shame, I liked his confidence.

A potentially great match-up lost to a celebratory goof. :shakehead:

Mind you, this Uzbek is no slouch. He won gold at the Asian Championships in 2017.

...and he's getting rag-dolled and shut out.

    Not even close, this one.

I wouldn't be against Walsh-McCormack in the pros after they both put a few fights on their ledger.

Should be 30-27 x5 in favor of Hovhannes...really no way else to score it.

    edit: twas indeed. :deal:

This is the last bout of "today" (for Americans...technically all of this, while Monday night for us, has been taking place late morning and early afternoon on Tuesday in Japan).

There is another session for August 2nd, after this match-up and then a 5½ hour break.

I believe Gadzhimagomedov is on something in the neighborhood of a 50-0 run since his last defeat, to (now California based Uzbek prospect in the pros) Bektemir Melikuziev in 2017.

Pretty big scalp if Nyika takes it, then.

Ooh, bad look for the Kiwi, ate 2-3 consecutive straights on the chin as Gadzhimagomedov lobbed in alternating hands as Nyika was buoying himself off the ropes and lurching inside to engage. Judges will have been impressed by that sequence. Even without it, Gadzhimagomedov probably cruised to a 10-9.

Aussie, Polish, Ugandan and Thai judges all saw it for Gadzhimagomedov.

Argentinian went for Nyika, probably just to be a contrarian. :sisi1

Nyika's style will serve him better in the pros, methinks.

Gadzhimagomedov too clever and slippery, willing to miss 9 to land 3, while only letting Nyika get off half a dozen shots and land one.
