This has more to do with Bivol than it has to do with Canelo. Remember Bivol offered to come down to 168 and has been saying he's a small Light Heavyweight for years. Whenever Canelo has had catchweight fights in the past, it's always been his opponents who demanded the catchweight. It's no different here. Canelo offered Bivol a fight at 168. Bivol said no, only at a catchweight above 168.

You trying to spin this against Canelo won't work. You need to apply logic to a situation, hold Bivol accountable for his statements about being able to make 168. Canelo is simply trying to do anything he can to make the fight happen for September, even fighting north of 168-lbs against a fighter who has said repeatedly that he can make 168.

This. Gongora is a decent fighter and I'd rather see Canelo win fair and square than through weight trickery. I thought he'd left that **** behind after the fight with Saunders.

I wouldn't call him fighting Bivol at a catchweight "trickery", if anything that would be Bivol trickery forcing Canelo up in weight after saying he'd move down to 168. But yes Gongora would be a great fight, and to unify with the IBO Champ would only add to the spectacle. I'd be very happy with that for September.

@shadow111 you don't have to do this man. You don't.

In a way I admire the loyalty, but just be real.

This is not a good look for Canelo.

@lufcrazy Do what? I'm pretty much agreeing with you aren't I? I'm saying I'd rather he stay at 168-lb than fight Bivol at a catchweight. I agree that would be a bad "look" because of the catchweight but in reality that's got more to do with Bivol than Canelo.

@BCS8 There was a report 5 days ago that suggests that Canelo and Gongora were in negotiations :

    https://www.eluniverso.com/deportes...o-en-un-desafio-con-saul-canelo-alvarez-nota/

'Let's see if he agrees to fight'

Apparently Gongora said after the Plant fight fell through, “Si Caleb no quiere pelear con el Canelo, yo estoy listo para darle un knockout pero en mi tierra.”

"If Caleb does not want to fight with Cinnamon, I'm ready to give him a knockout but in my land."

It's unclear if that was directed at Canelo or Plant, but it's clear that Gongora wants to fight and he sounds like he is ready for September.

The Boxing Ecudor Instagram account stated "Su ladrido es más fuerte que su mordida" after Canelo Plant was cancelled. "His barking is stronger than his bite" which surely is a reference to Plant.

The question is, is Carlos ready for the Fight for his life, a Unification with the P4P King?

A lot of questionable things going on. He negotiates with fighters like Plant for months then breaks it off and some one gets offered shorter notice fights with lots of pressure. Most of his opponents get brutalized in the ring so fighters need to wise up and not let themselves fall into the trap of getting shorted or taken advantage of. I would ask for Olympic style testing until the day of the fight or no fights. Look at BJS, possibly career over, so when you fight Canelo, you need to make sure you look out for yourself first and not put up with any BS.

Cool. I think it is a decent fight and I for one would prefer it to yet another stacked deck card.

"Months"? Just fought in May. He hadn't been negotiating with Plant for "months", more like weeks. He didn't break it off, PBC did.
Well Saunders certainly did that, but it was Canelo who put up with BJS BS not the other way around. Demanding a bigger ring during fight week, that was BS.

Well with this logic Canelo should be allowed to face AJ for all HW belts at 168:hang

Did AJ say he's a small LHW and can make 168? I don't think so.

You Canelo haters complain every chance you get. Bivol’s said so many times that he’s ok to drop to 168. Let’s just be glad it’s a catch weight and not at super middle

yeah, a former title holder at 175 should fight a current title holder at 175 at a catchweight. That makes sense... o_O
