As stated it was the Dynamic Duo that were promoting these fights at the time. The Dynamic Duo were Don King and Butch Lewis.

For Spoon to trouble Tyson he'd have to be in same kind of shape he was in against Holmes. And even then I'd still give Tyson the edge. Witherspoon while a very good fighter was too inconsistent at world level. He did very well against Holmes, performed poorly against Thomas, scraped by against Tubbs and blown away by Smith. One things for certain though is that unlike Bonecrusher or Mitch Green, Witherspoon would've came to fight.

I know. Lewis didn't have control of Witherspoon after the tournament, or even during.

What does Butch Lewis have to do with Tyson-Witherspoon never materializing?

We don't know if Witherspoon would've been **** scared like plenty of Tyson's opponents, if he was, he would crumble and get KO'd early, but if he does come in ready and unfazed, he probably loses a decision, but why are we just assuming that he wouldn't be shitting it like Spinks was? He very much could have, who knows?

    That’s a lame excuse.

The Bonecrusher fight is the only loss by Witherspoon from 1984 to 1992.

Figure Mike could have worked him into the schedule somewhere.

He also twice fought Frank Bruno, who lost to Tim and Bonecrusher by KO. Didn’t seem to be an issue with Frank getting his shots.

Witherspoon would have been similar to so many others in that short period. He may (or may not have) been a little awkward for a while but Tyson would have got him out of there for mine.

His only chance of fighting Tyson was simply to beat Bonecrusher who he had got past easily not that long prior. Then he had Tyson.

After his falling out with Don King he was never getting a shot. It was double whammy too as he couldn't get fights against the type of guys he needed to beat in order to build any interest as well.

I think a Witherspoon that came to fight would be an interesting match-up. Tyson is a big favourite, of course, but Tim might have his moments.

If Page, Tubbs, Witherspoon, Dokes and Thomas just could have maintained consistency throughout the 80's, I think Tyson really could have been in for some fights. At his best he beats all of them, but on an off night with one of them firing on all cylinders it could be awkward.

You posted about Tyson beating guys who beat Witherspoon as if that’s a reason not to fight him.

But Bonecrusher and Witherspoon both beat Bruno but he hit the jackpot twice and got two shots at Tyson.

    There’s an inconsistency there.

I never said that was a reason not to fight him. I think it was a response to the posters thinking Tyson ducked Witherspoon, which is preposterous!

Spoon lost to Bonecrusher when it counted and then got blackballed by Don King. I would've loved to see Tyson-Witherspoon but unfortunately King was pulling the strings at heavyweight.

Come on Saint! Give me some kinda credit, aye!

Hey no problem at all my man! I can't believe this was a thread from 2014. I try to picture where my mindset was at back then - where I was working, relationship issues, what the state of boxing was and all that good stuff.

7 years ago. Crazy how fast time flies.
