Why Is Nobody Calling For Bivol-Beterbiev?

Bivol vs Beterbiev would be my top fight right now, after Craig Richards Bivol said he'd want to unify against Beterbiev, but at that time Beterbiev was supposed to be lining up a fight against Joe Smikth Jr (unification).

I actually think the pink elephant spectre of a Canelo payday is what is stopping Bivol / Beterbiev being made - and I don't think it's on the pugilists, I bet it's the promoters. Especially Eddie, he will be telling Bivol to hold out - get the pie from Canelo AND the win, then he holds all the cards in negotiation with AB.

It sucks, but it is what it is.

 

I would never suggest you were blind nor stupid. I've seen threads calling for the two to fight, I mean we're literally commenting on such a thread right now.

My judgement is people just aren't as bothered about Beterbiev and Bivol as they are about Spence and Crawford.

That being said, anyone who does follow the LHW scene at the championship level wants them to fight each other.

 

For me personally, Beterbiev vs Bivol is right up there with the top 18 fights that can be made in the whole of boxing.

But I tend to follow the sport as a whole, rather than the progress of certain fighters.

 

Bivol and Beterbiev have been both champions simultaneously for four years. Four years ago, and three years ago Canelo was fighting at 160. If they are bothwaiting for Canelo since his MW days, its even more pathetic honestly, but I doubt it. They're just like many titlist unwilling to fight the very best in fear of losing.

 

I'd say Bivol talks the talk, a lot. He always makes noise about fighting the best but never actually does it.

Beterbiev on the other hand beat Gvodyk in a unification which was a fight between the two best in the division at the time imo.

 

This is a fair point, although I think Covid and injury may make the 4 years seem a bit longer than it really is.

Beterbiev unified against Gzvodyk in October 2019, and a week before that Bivol successfully defended against Lenin Castillo - but then both boxers had 18 months out - with Beter fighting Deines and Bivol fighting Richards; I don't think anyone would have expected a unification to be made with both fighters needing a tune-up at least to get rid of ring rust.

I was hoping after Bivol clearly dominated Smith Jr that the unification against Beterbiev would be made, but that is understandable as Beterbiev made a separate unification with The Nail.

It's maybe a good question as to why the fight wasn't made between 2017-2019, but the landscape at 175 was quite different then with Kovalev / Eleider Alvarez and even Stevenson still in the mix. I think Beterbiev can be excused to an extent as he DID unify with Gzvodyk, but I think it's a legetimate question to aske Bivol why he has not been in a unification fight yet. I guess there probably are legitemate reasons there as he simply didn't have a dance partner - Kov / Alvarez fought each other in back to back battles.

Funnily enough it was a week after both Bivol and Beterbiev started their inactivity that Canelo KO'd Kovalev - then of course Covid hit not long after that.

 

Year ago Eddie Hearn asked Bivol about BTR fight, Dmitry said he is one of the most dangerous fighters in boxing, but the fight is interesting because he got 2 belts. I was kinda disappointed he didnt say bold that he wants to fight him and I never heard BTR talking about Bivol fight either. So we can blame them for it. Thats the second reason.

The fight would be big in Russia, but everything is on decline in my motherland, haha. So i dont see it happening.

I took a big break from watching boxing some time ago, now i am in this mood again. This year is just trash, so many A level fights getting canceled because of some bull**** going on. I am craving for big fights, doesnt matter if its Bivol vs Beterbiev or somebody else, i am not a fanboy, i just wanna watch fair competitive fights without catchweights, short notices, excuses and so on. The only hope is Pac vs Spence, if it gets canceled, i am ****ing done, haha.

 

Beterbiev is not calling out Canelo. Where's the credit in beating up someone who is just a blown up middleweight? Zero.

From day ONE, Beterbiev has been about unifying the 175lb division. It was the only reason he signed up to Top Rank - because they promised they could make it happen. Watch the Beterbiev documentary. He said his dream was to unify 175lbs, maybe go up to Cruiserweight for a fight or two for the right opponent and then re-try the Olympics. Canelo is not even a challenge for this guy and the little Mexican would get battered, mauled and brutally KO'd. Eddie Reynoso knows this too and deep down Canelo knows it too.

The Smith Jr fight was supposed to happen in September but Eddie Hearn tried to check mate Bob Arum and he dangled a two fight deal in front of Smith Jr - Salamov and Danny Jacobs - and Smith looks like he wants that easy money. So there goes that unification fight for now.....

Then Bivol could have had the September date but now his head is spinning about the Canelo dollars too. However, all this procrastination from Canelo leads me to think they're just baiting everyone in the hope of still getting the Plant fight or getting a 175lb champ at very short notice with a small training camp and a lack of preparation.

One thing though; Beterbiev is ready all year around. He just needs to jump in the sauna and take some weight off but in terms of being fighting fit he is 100% ready and Canelo knows that.

 

Only one Russian has bothered unifying and that's Betebiev.

Everyone else has ran from him.

 

You're twisting the narrative like the little Canelo a** sucking fan boy you have come to be known as. Beterbiev hasn't been waiting for Canelo since his MW days. Get real.

Beterbiev wanted unification fights from day ONE. His promoters have failed to deliver. Even in his last fight in Russia they had virtually ZERO involvement in that fight and were just happy to collect their % fee. They've been awful at promoting the most brutal LHW for a long time.

Bivol or Beterbiev aren't getting the Canelo fight. EVER. Canelo is a time wasting joke and his recent actions have shown as much. Only die hards can't see beyond that.

They should just unify and leave Canelo out in the wind to chase his Plant fight and get roped into a deal with Al Haymon.
