It's as frustrating as Spence/Crawford and Fury/AJ not fighting each other yet. I don't understand what's holding up Bivol and Beterbiev.
I reckon if you polled every fan who asked for Crawford vs Spence, and asked if they wanted Bivol vs Beterbiev, it would be near 100% In terms of thread making etc, on a western speaking board there's no way it's as popular a thread choice. Doesn't indicate bias as much as it indicates popularity imo.
This Beterbiev fan wants the best fights for his boy. If that is the Canelo fight then so be it. However I would prefer unification fights so he is unisputed at 175lbs.
Bivol is hanging around for a Canelo pay day. Beterbiev wants a big fight or a unification fight. Joe Smith Jr will duck Beterbiev and try and get some easy wins.
Has that been the excuse for the four years they've both held world titles? If so, that's just pathetic.
It's simple. Neither man is a draw, so a big unification fight like that would be high risk and low reward. Doubt any casuals know Bivol or Beterbiev. Different than Spence/Crawford and Fury/Joshua.
No no no, you've got it all wrong. Every fighter from 3 different weight classes should sit around and wait for Canelo, legacy shmegacy.
Canelo sells himself. He could sign with Dennis Hobson and pack out arenas around the world. Other promoters need to learn how to do their jobs and promote their best fighters the best they can.
Beterbiev has a big fan base, problem is they're not English speakers. They're from the Caucuses (Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagestan) and from Muslim countries. He'll sell well in Russia but in North America he won't sell well unless he knocks a big name out and even then he has maybe 2-3 years left at the top. It's painful.
Bivol has a decent resume, but Beterbiev has easily the best win in beating Gzodyk - the man who beat the man (Stevenson). Of course, neither of the B's beat Kov which is what I wanted to see, but he was tied up with Eleider Alvarez for at least a year, and then declined dramatically almost losing to Yarde and then that farce with Canelo. At that point I don't think Kov had much to offer either Bivol / Beterbiev aside from the name. Could have been some real classic fights in there - imagine a 175 WBSS around 2017-18? That would have been awesome.
I wish we got to see Kov vs Stevenson. We need Beterbiev/Bivol immediately. Promoters love to sit great fights on the shelf.
