Evander Holyfield: I'd tear Joe Louis Up

Tyson was a big favourite going into that fight, he had knocked out every opponent since being released from prison and Holy had lost the titles Tyson had to Moorer in a listless performance blamed on a whole in Holy`s heart and Bowe had just knocked Holy out, at the time there were legitimate concern for Holy`s health going in against Tyson.

 

Lack of self belief was never one of Holyfield's shortcomings.

 

Yeah getting stopped twice in his lifetime (once pre peak and once in his last ever fight against an emerging ATG) while defending the heavyweight crown 25 times over a dozen years or so just smacks of fragility.

 

Was there any proof Holyfield said this in the thread? I'm sorts dubious unless something got put up.

 

yup and when people say quotes like he said or he said makes people look like robots who haven't got a mind of there own

 

from which match did you get that from cause joe fought in a era where boxers had less muscle and wasnt known to be super tough

I have said mutiple times put joe or any of those names in 70s-90s and they wont do the same amount of damage which throws that lie of joe hit harder then holy out

joe couldnt cause that same type of damage cause he wouldnt be able to land as cleanly and he would be facing real hws not hw who was weak and had less muscle on the body for taking shots like he was used to

 

Joe`s combo hand speed was faster than any heavyweight in the 90`s.

 

A really bizarre argument. Lack of tape would hurt the defending champion Even if it's 50:50 for champion vs challengee, it'd make long title reigns harder.

Plus they can still watch each other from ringside, and if there's anyone footage would be available of it's the defending champion.

 

I would say that the lack of tape worked more against Louis than for him.

By the time he won the title, there were half a dozen of his fights out there, but he would have struggled to get footage of Arturo Godoy say.

 

I honestly think Louis and Holyfield would be pretty good matches for one another. Holyfield topped out in the 220's iirc and Louis was about 210. So even the size difference isnt that much. Joe Louis always strikes me as a very modern looking boxer.

holy would never struggle in Joe's era but joe would not only struggle but be destroyed cause of his outdated movement
