Am I the only one thinks the 90s Foreman would be a massive favorite over Anthony Joshua? Joshua has proven that he struggles vs big slow fighters like Andy Ruiz. His chin is questionable too. I can't see him withstanding Big George's punches which are the hardest in history. Foreman's chin was titanium at the time. Holyfield was tagging Foreman and his blocked shots with his face. If Joshua can't KO Foreman, his only chance is dancing around the ring avoiding the fight because he gets murdered in a straight up fight.
I would have to favor Joshua to be honest. You are probably not beating Joshua on power and chin alone.
I agree, but he still was what he was. Joshua for all his failings, is consistently fighting men in the top ten, and he is not hand picking certain styles. He probably solves this problem.
Agree with this. I think AJ has great reflexes, he's hard to nail clean with a heavy shot unless you have big speed. Old Foreman may have been powerful but he was hella slow. And even though Joshua isn't the most natural looking fighter, he's well schooled and drilled and combine that with his huge size and power ... Foreman likely loses.
AJ was basically beating Andy to a pulp un the first fight, knocked him down, got excited and decided to rumble on the inside to exchange with him. Bad and stupid mistake But then ruiz put him on his massive hindpart and finished him. Yes, Aj has no ring IQ imo but against an old Foreman, unless if he gets too excited and goes on the inside to engage George, i believe AJ outpoints him.
AJ would be too big, skilled, strong and a combination of all those things would lead to an early stoppage. He has what Foreman has in spades on top of all his own gifts.
With both fighters able to land bombs and also the factor that Joshua hasn’t the best defence I think this is one of those fights where in all honestly it simply comes down to whoever lands big first
Ruiz is neither big or slow. Big in terms of excess body fat and weight, but not in terms of height and reach. I would never class him as being big. He’s just out of shape. Although I’ve heard he’s lost weight recently. He also has quick hands. He’s much more mobile than what George was. Regarding AJ vs George, AJ would have had to have stuck to a disciplined game plan, where he’d have boxed behind his jab like he did against Ruiz in their rematch. Tommy Morrison out boxed George in the 90’s. And that was a great game plan that he implemented. Because had he have gotten into a shootout, George would have taken him out. I wouldn’t say that George would have been a massive favourite over AJ, but it’s an interesting question that you’ve asked.
I can’t envisage AJ taking George out quick. I don’t think that he was as strong as George. He doesn’t possess the chin that George had. He also has stamina issues and can lose composure when he’s hit. It wouldn’t have been easy for AJ to have beaten George. And the last thing he’d have wanted, was for them to have gotten into a brawl in the middle of the ring. That would have favoured George. The smart thing to have done would have to been to have implemented the type of game plan that Tommy Morrison used.
Old George carried his power late into fights, possibly later than young George did. I'd expect to see Joshua make old George look slow, clumsy, and bad overall, for quite a while in this fight, and be ahead on points when George stops him late. (IMHO, of course.)
Joshua could nick it playing it ultra safe like he did against Ruiz II but early comeback Foreman is very dangerous and very underrated. 88-92 Foreman would have a much easier time with W.Klitschko cos he can't box n move going back like Joshua can.. WK would get ran through horrifically. Its possible a tiring Joshua get stopped late as well. Foreman may have been slow but he kept moving. There was no rest periods for the opponent
I'm a Foreman fan. Even the older version but if had to bet on it i would take Joshua. He's bigger, faster, and can box if he chooses to. If Joshua fights intelligently he probably gives old George a beating. Joshua was stopped once. IDK if his chin is that bad. Gotta go with him probably on points or late stoppage.
