Smart gameplan by him using his body shots to sap Mean Machine's power. His defense still needs tightening so I don't think he should be thrown to Bud just yet.
Bud is 33 , if that fight isn't happening in two years it isn't happening at all. Ortiz is good , but he fights like a quintessential Robert Garcia fighter. Most of his game revolves around his size and power and the lack of fear of getting countered due to the respect instilled into opponents by his punches. Seems susceptible to uppercuts and being blinded by a jab due to his guard , he reminds me a bit of Benavidez but without the handspeed .
He's definitely not ready for Crawford or Spence. His defense needs work and he a bit stiff in the upper body.
I think I'm being a bit too harsh on him but I feel like he's bit of a weight bully at 147 because his hands hit heavy, not the snappy kinda power but like from someone a division or two above.
I wish next fight for Ortiz would be against Crawford. He needs that lesson at this stage of his career.
He's not ready for Crawford or Spence in the sense that he'll win, but he's ready to be a threat. He looked a level above where he was against Hooker. Kavaliauskas looked strong and prepared and caused Ortiz some problems. There were definitely easier fights out there he could have taken without complaints. I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Ortiz every fight.
He’s a bad boy! Ortiz is a young kid but fights like a veteran, he was hurt in the beginning of the fight but he kept his composure and acted like he wasn’t hurt, took a couple of rounds “off” and finished the fight few rounds later, impressive. Idk if he’s ready for Crawford, Pac or Spence but it would be fun to see him against Garcia.
Guy has levelled up in this fight. He's more dangerous now than before now that he has gained the experience from fighting someone like Kav.
