Canelo as a counter puncher takes a lot of flack for the scores against him. But apart from the GGG fights i think hes been screwed in some of the scorecards. Analysts talk about the jab and the pressure. But what good is the jab and pressure when that guy actually aint the one dictating the fight. Sometimes landing more jabs, with most soft and just touch jabs, can't outweigh power punches landed, an example of this is the Kovalev-Canelo fight prior to the knockout. A point of reference will be Joshua-Ruiz 2, where Joshua easily dominated the fight behind the jab, he was dictating the tempo, he wasnt just jabbing for "points". Another notable recent fight was Loma-Lopez fight, half of the fight was won with the jab by Lopez, but the other half was dominated by loma without a dominant use of the jab. How do you guys generally score fights? What do you guys look at?
I wont argue with specific fights. but id just wanna know how others score when they are watching. what yall looking at exactly? iss different for everybody.
The amount and the quality of the punches landed. If a similar amount of punches have been landed I look at the quality. Not enough just to tap your opponent, i want to see clean connects.
Ill give an example, the Jacobs fight. there were judges that had Canelo winning by just a round or 2, but in reality he(Jacobs) really only won around 4 rounds. Why the heck would jacobs win those other rounds when all he was doing was practically touching Canelo?
ive watched the fight bro... from start to finish, canelo controlled that. Canelo won almost every exchange, he landed the hardest shots both in the head and the body, he stalked jacobs the entire night; apart from a cross to the head of canelo, which didnt even bother him, there was very little jacobs was actually doing, as a southpaw and in his orthodox stance. if you dont agree then explain why you dont think so.
Browsing that thread was an unpleasant reminder of the bad old days when there were major fights in Germany. Now those judges were awful.
not one thing jacobs did bothered canelo. Canelo dictated the tempo and decided when the exchanges were gonna happen and even landed the better blows. That fight was close in the score card, but watch the entire fight and itll show you who won that one big time.
