a very underrated finisher is Ali, well, sort of, not in the way where he could knock you down in the first round with pure power and then finish you. But usually when opponents fell into his mini traps he’d set up during the match, wether by gassing you out or preparing you for a unexpected counter, once they fall in that trap completely. You’d get finished in seconds, a great example is the Ron Lyle fight.
Sugar Ray Leonard was the best finisher I've seen. He was able to sense when a guy was hurt before my friends and I watching the fight, before the fans at the fight and before the fight announcers. When he saw his opponent was hurt he swarmed over him with ferocity and reckless abandon.
Ricardo Lopez- If he saw an opening he was ending it, If you were hurt he wasn't missing. Phenomenal fighter just a brilliant marvel of boxing.
The Hearns fight really did display that fully, His tenacity in the fight was something else. He had no grace he was just nasty at times trying to end things. That 14th round was something else by Ray he walked down Hearns with very little semblance of his former elusiveness swatting shots away like flies and just put a beating on a worn out Hearns completely flat footed with all his bodyweight behind every shot. The Leonard being scared of Hearns narrative always reminded me of how Foreman was "Scared" of Frazier.
So much insight in just three sentences. Great point about how fast he could assess that an opponent was hurt or struggling. Once he went after you he was a blur. He could get a tad reckless but it didn't matter given the rate and frequency those punches were coming at. His killer instinct was immense and he was quite a big puncher.
