This was supposed to be headlined by Ali Baloyev vs. Rolly Lambert Fogoum Tameza, but the Cameroonian withdrew last-minute due to a medical issue and no substitute could be found to face the Kygryz-born and Kazakh-nationalized but US-based cruiser.

 

Hasibullah Ahmadi vs. Rauf Alisa Oglu Aghayev, 10 rounds @ featherweight

 

Mostly nothing but high-guard front-door jab-and-grab from the Azeri-Floridian thirty-eight-year-old journeyman nicknamed "The Lion". Counter jabs poking between the gloves and into the belly from a mid-range Philly shell by the Dubai-based twenty-one-year-old Afghan, nicknamed "Kalashnikov".

 

Aghayev down hard in the second.

20-17 Ahmadi

 

Ahmadi capable of doing a lot more than Aghayev (and hurting him, as we saw early), but not quite get rid of him even with a constant willing target directly in front of him. Ahmadi putting in body work and uppercuts bypassing his defensively bunched arms, sneaky overhands catching Aghayev on the brow above his gloves, and outscoring him consistently with jabs from different angles using superior lateral & up-and-down movement, but Aghayev manages to hang in there after each volley, even when rocked, and either wait out the storm until Ahmadi cautiously steps outside when he feels himself in danger of spending too much energy, or grind in behind jabs and haymakers to hold on. Aghayev occasionally having success whipping right hands around the rear of Ahmadi's bald pate, landing behind his ear, not quite legal scoring blows although it does seem to freak Ahmadi out when he does it.

Yeah, pretty damn stupid, turns out they made the battle of unbeaten Thai fighters the co-feature despite the fact that it was always supposed to be a 10-rounder (for the WBC Asian Boxing Council lightweight title) ...whereas Ahmadi vs. Aghayev under the original configuration was an 8-rounder on the undercard, like fourth-billed. It getting promoted to a 10-rounder and the WBC Asian feather belt getting put on the line is fine, but leapfrogging over Petchmanee vs. Chonlathondamrongkun makes no sense.

Petchmanee is, while not top 15, at least rated #27 by the WBC at 135lbs; meanwhile neither Ahmadi nor Aghayev make top 40 at 126lbs in that org's rankings, nor any other.
