Imagine a young cat beating the old legend. A kind of passing the torch moment. A marquee win that cannot be taken away from him just cuz pac aint in his prime anymore. It would have helped his legacy big time. He missed a chance of a lifetime. I pray for his full recovery. Instead the guy who forced manny into retirement is the guy who will be like fish food for bud/ortiz/spence/porter.
Does Spence really need that, at this point? He's already undeniably a top 2 at the weight and not exactly a young gun either, if he doesn't already carry that torch then it's too late.
Im under the presumption that he is hoping to be considered as an ATG, this would have helped his resume.
Indeed. Then Spence at least must get Ugas first before anyone else. At least beat the man who beat the man.
He lost in that he ****ed up his eye and payday but he wouldn’t have gotten much credit for beating this slow version of Pac… Plus Ortiz and Ennis are right there waiting to snatch the torch from him and Bud. **** even Stanionis poses a bigger threat than the the DSGs, Ugases, Porters, or Thurmans of the past, and there are other young guys coming up. Both Crawford and Spence done ****ed up big time in that sense, let’s hope the next generation at 147 learns from it. No shade on Spence who is a good dude but Ugas closing out Pac is a fitting end to this anticlimactic era.
I think he get best chance in his life: to have both eyes functioning normally. It is more worth than to get stuff called legacy and other bull****. It is your body. It is very easily to judge people and tell that boxer had ducked or was bad boxer or quit. Fans love to post how cool is sacrifice in the ring, greatness and other bull****, while pro boxing is the same career job like all other jobs, skilled or unskilled jobs. If you can't do your job anymore, you should pick up another choice. People are reading how well paid are aircraft pilots with education and references + experience and multiple licenses. Rare cases when people in internet forums does know about regular health checks they should pass to be allowed to work for next period until next health check. There is conversation about people with degrees and experience. Boxing is the same, you need to pass health check. It is more lenient here rather than for pilots.
It's not comparable. Ali clearly had some issues with his speech slowing and slurring before the Holmes fight and it was clear he was a shell of a fighter. Pac was coming in off a good performance vs Thurman.
True, but the outcome might have been similar. I don't think many fans -- even Mayweather fans -- wanted to see Pacquiao physically destroyed in a non-competitive fight. Pac is very lucky things went the way they did; he needs to retire before he gets seriously injured.
Well 2 years earlier Ali had regained the title beating an undefeated Lion Spinks to become the first man to win the heavyweight title 3 times.
