Something Shay mentioned in one of her threads, that got me thinking. It Was Tommy Morrison that beat Old George, but Foreman got the title shot verse Moorer. What if tho, Morrison took on Moorer in November 1994? I actually see this as an opportunity for Tommy to win the lineal title. In a battle of chins there's not a lot between em and power wise, I'm going with The Duke. Thoughts on this fight?
Would have been a good fight I think. Think Moorer was the better though. Moorer by late KO or decision
That certainly wouldn't have been a massive upset, if MM had beaten Tommy, Moorer would probably still have being favourite. Think Tommy's best chance would be to get out fast and jump on Moorer. Holyfield dropped him early, maybe Morrison could and go further. The later it goes, the more chance Moorer gets it. For me anyway.
To be fair to Morrison, I think he did fight to the best of his ability against Lewis but,,, well it's Lennox so what can you do?.
Morrison takes him out early, but Moorer probably outpoints him if he doesn't die in the first 4 or 5 rounds.
Morrison struggled against two other southpaws, Vaulin and Hipp, Moorer was quicker and probably a better puncher than either of them.
So he did. Yes there is that to consider. It's a long time back but seem to remember Hipp doing really well against Tommy, havin him in trouble and didn't he break Morrison s jaw?.
I checked BoxRec and apparently Morrison got a broken jaw and hand, Hipp got a broken bone in his face in their fight. I watched the Vaulin fight. I might have been wrong about Moorer being quicker than Vaulin. Vaulin arguably won the first 4 rounds before being stopped by liver punches from Morrison. This content is protected
Moorer was the more complete guy. He also had a grit to him as he climbed off the deck multiple times in his career to win fights. Only Foreman and Tua knocked him out and there is no shame in that. Morrison was the harder puncher with the left hook but as was pointed out, he struggled with southpaws and Moorer was one of the better southpaws in heavyweight history.
Yep, I can remember the report s saying Hipp gave Morrison a real hard fight and he really had to fight for it. Good find.
Moorer has the ability to outbox Morrison if he wanted to. But he probably go to war which would favor Tommy.
I watched it live. I remember Dan Derdorpf was one of the commentators. Hipp definitely roughed him up.
