9 months and a title holder should have to unify or defend. That’s 6 months to get a fight sorted and 3 months contingency for a genuine injury (not pretending to have COVID etc) otherwise they vacate is how I think it should be.
    Obviously it will never happen.

If only the bodies would apply such a ruling, but even the independent ranking bodies seem to be on a mission to out-do each other in regards to leniency shown to the fighters.

Boxrec seem to have an automatic 18 month cut off.
PBO have a cut off of 12 months unless they have a fight lined up (though they might have extended that due to Covid)
The Ring - did eventually strip Fury during his retirement. But I suspect they will hold off until the trilogy fight on the 20 month mark.
The TBRB - seems to be if you don't sign to have a fight within 18 months you get removed. Which must make them the most lenient of the lot.

In fairness, The Ring and TBRB take the stance of wanting to maintain a lineage that transfers within the ring, but I much prefer your suggestion as it would force fighters to, you know, fight.

Should we ignore the lineal title too? Seeing as it is imaginary and Fury should have lost it when he "retired". Or maybe he should have lost it when he was caught doing PEDs? Either way, I will be watching to see what the WBC does when/if Fury pulls out of the fight again. Will they actually strip him and have Wilder fight Whyte? Or will they let him slide like they let Wilder slide for years? Either way, Fury is sitting on the belt and holding up the show. Also, it's funny how boxrec means something...until someone gets pulls from there? Isn't it?

The IBF belt is the only one that takes a hard stance on mandatories and actually fighting. They do not mess around. If you don't fight, they strip you. Period. That is what the other belts would do if they weren't all corrupt. And the WBC is the worst of all belts. They seem to be making it all up as they go along. Fury should be catching way more hell for all of his antics when it comes to defending a belt.

I want you to think about this for a minute. You are accusing Wilder of taking the WBC belt hostage by not *unifying*??

And I want you to read my entire post. Especially the part that says he fought bums for years. He refused mandatories, unification and he avoided most of the top heavyweights. For years.

I dunno.. He's kind of a throwback to the bareknucklers and early gloved champions, who would take years off, refuse to face challengers, and use the break to indulge in substance abuse. Followed by being whipped back into shape for the next big fight. It's almost nostalgic, really. Sullivanesque.

I see they have elevated Lewis to #1 all time on active or inactive. Reading too much into tko6 for my liking.

Fury isn't very interested in being a professional boxer. He wasted a year of Vlad's life, and now has jerked Joshua and Wilder around for another year. He should retire and let the fighters fight.

I'm personally far more interested in the hopes that Fury gets KTFO (as unlikely as many think that is).

However, I'd be quite happy to see Wilder and Joshua go at it.

Exactly. It's a valuable resource for dates and results. They don't even have real rankings and they're always superficially "adjusting" their silly formula every few years.

That said Ring Magazine do a lot questionable things and are almost as bad with ratings.

Just looking at the HW ratings - Wilder 4 ranked in the top 5, Ortiz and Rivas in the HW top 10 is joke.

What's your confusion here? Wilder refused to fight other belt holders for his title. That's holding the belt hostage.
